for some reason im now growing paranoid whenever i use my bike or discover a new scratch that the value of the bike is dropping rapidly. Got my rvf400 for £2500 and feel i wont get much of that back when i sell it after my restriction period finishes.

iv'e ridden the bike pretty much everday through winter and it seems to have survived ice, snow and gale force winds although i did drop it and break a fairing at 0 mph in my garage.

anyone else worry about how much value has been lost on their bike since they have owned it? prolly gonna lock the bike up this winter and get a winter hack and give the rvf some tlc that it deserves.

Save yourself some money use the RVF through the winter, the money you lose on it will be less than sorting out a new bike and insurance etc.

No....

Its a means or transport.
Little scratches ain't making much diffrence to value.

Nope its general signs of usage, you could always do it up immaculate and store it in a glass case forever though.

but bikes are to be used , and scratches dings cracks etc are all general wear and tear. Plus I don't value my bikes at much anyway, I may have paid £1850 for my CBR , I may have put a £200 full zorst system on it, I may have paid for valves , clutch etc to be changed but I'm not expecting more than £8-900 for it when it comes to selling it .

So basically you think you should get 2 years riding pretty much for free? Confused

Depreciation is something you have to factor into the cost equation when you buy any vehicle.

Bikes are for riding and as you ride them bits wear out or get tatty, that's life, get over it.

Set a reasonable figure for depreciation (I reckon about £20-£50/month for my bikes depending on age & condition when I bought them, which is much less than my cars) and you should get more than the bike is "worth" to you when you come to sell it even if that's considerably less than you paid for it.

If this concept is too much for you maybe you'd be better off on the bus...........

Believe 400's seem to be starting to come down in price now anyway. Immaculate bikes are great to look at but I also like to think at the same time general wear and tear, inperfections etc give it character and a little story behind it Razz

PS. itchy sell me your FX you know you want to Razz

I've ridden my 57 plate Fazer through the winter, and now think "fuck it" I'm putting the magnetic tank bag on it when I go to cornwall - it's lost the new bike look after 3,000 miles. Confused

I could easily double that or worse Wink.

I Don't give a shit anyway, by the time I'm finished with a bike, the cosmetics are destroyed beyond redemption.

I might just keep this bike for 10 years or so, and not give two hoots about the looks after a while.

I haven't smashed up the fairings yet.

If anyone is wondering, here's my last GPZ500. Not only the wrong colour fairing off the wrong model but it was so smashed up, I had to do this:

So, don't worry about cosmetics.

Battered bikes give more satisfaction anyway, you go up rivingtonbarn and there are a ton of sports bike posers, who have 100 miles between MOTs their bikes are tarted up with all the tat you can get , and spotless with enourmous chicken strips.

It gives me great satisfaction to overtake them on corners pretty much with me pegs down on my battered CBR , it gives me even better satisfaction to do it on the NTV.

And down France I had a furball with a bunch of germans on their new BMWs.

Also just cus they look good doesn't mean they are maintained well either as per stinkwheel's bolt theory, where you sort of play kerplunk with the bolts on the bike.

Yeah. If they start having a go about the cosmetics on your bike, challenge them to a fairing-off.
