I'm going to get a bike next month and am sizing up all my options, I would like to get a shed but the bike is a cruiser at 2.3M long.

A shed big enough for that is much more expensive than this https://www.cycleshell.com/use.html but I cannot find a U.K stockist and they are not getting back to me about shipping to England. The retail price of the cycleshell is £185 + Shipping?

So what are your solutions or suggestions?

If all you want is a cover then buy a cover, that seems to be pretty much what the cycleshell is. Or buy a tent..............it would be about as secure. Confused

Something like this https://www.tents-direct.co.uk/show_tent.php?productid=1278 but with the bedroom taken out would probably do!

If you're looking for security rather than just weather protection then a ground anchor combined with a tent or cover would possibly do the trick?

Depends what the bike is worth to you I suppose.

I went for the Bike Barn, not cheap but solved my problem perfectly, very sturdy when put together and is totally waterproof but lets the bike dry when needs be. I'm happy with it!

I like the cycleshell because it's got a plinth and is no bigger than it needs to be. Plus it's not technicolor!! lol. Well I have time to come up with a solution.

I have a 1000cc 2007 fazer in my front garden of a terrace house.

I knocked half the wall down, then got some chains and old padlocks, locked them up, sunk them padlock end first into the concrete. I lock the back wheel to it.

I can just, just, squeeze my bike into the front garden, clutch lever and indicicator milimetres from my windowsill. I put the steering lock on, and it has an imoboliser, with a flashing red light visible through the cover.

There is a 300watt security light, and a cctv camera trained on it.

This is sufficient to deter local yobs who are bored. This would not hold up a proffessional theif for more than a few seconds though.

It depends if you're looking for just storage or a bit more security.
For security the Trimetals Motorcycle Garage is ok but expensive.

There are others like the Trimetals but just as expensive on the grounds that they count as a proper garage for insurance companies (so in theory cheaper quotes).

Something a little cheaper, around £100, can be had from the likes of Argos
https://www.argos.co.uk/wcsstore/argos/images/95-7054918SPA69UC456361M.jpg
maybe not big enough for your cruiser, but they have others on the site.

Currently there's this 'Bike Hut' on eBay for £169. Length 2.59m so might fit your bike.

Recommend a concrete base whatever you choose. When laying it remember to put in a ground anchor.

HTH Thumbs Up

If you've got enough room for a wooden or steel shed in your garden, I'd keep an eye on the free ad. websites like adtrader (you know the ones that have the weekly papers with free ads in the newsagents).

If you keep an eye on that twice a day, for a few days, then as soon as the shed you're interested in comes up locally, get straight on the phone and arrange to get over there as soon as possible then leave a deposit to buy it if it looks OK.

I did this and picked up a shed that was almost new, well made and in really good condition for £80 (would have cost me nearer £500 or more if I'd bought it from a garden centre). Meant dismantling it and a scary journey on the motorway at rush hour bringing it back strapped to a trailer but saved a ton of money and delay getting one made up to order or delivered. If you've got access to a transit or box van that would be a safer bet (not too expensive to hire for the afternoon if you don't know anyone).

If you keep an eye on their websites, then ring as soon as one appears you'll be able to beat the rush before the papers are published (not sure if they still work like that but worth checking) so you can get in first for the real bargains. You still need to be quick though as when I went to have a look, after leaving the deposit the guy told me he'd had a dozen people ringing already that day and the ad had only gone in late the night before.

You'll often find real bargains for decent sheds there as lots of people decide they just want them out of the way when they're moving or to make space for something else so are happy for someone to come and dismantle them and take them away. Seen a few offers when I was looking for them to be taken away for free for bigger ones (though didn't have space for them myself).

Worth a try perhaps, and you might be better off with a shed than one of those tent things. I'd guess they'd last a lot longer if you give them a decent coat of fencelife, and be a little more secure (or at least easier to secure yourself).

You'd need to budget for a new roof covering as well as you'll need to split the existing one to dismantle it, but you can pick that up from the local DIY place for not much money (£15 or so perhaps for a big shed).

P.S. If you decide to look on the free ad websites, might be worth looking for concrete section garrages as well. They can be dismantled and reassembled fairly easily (bolt together) and sometimes bargains pop up where people want them out of the way.

Bit more hastle to move but they last for decades, can be more secure, and being concrete with a metal door might get you an insurance discount.

I used to put my bike in the back garden, which is accessed by a dirt track, there are always sharps on the ground and I've had at least punctures because of this. Bike is now parked in the front garden, with a cover on. On at least 2 occasions whilst the bike was on its side stand with the cove on, high winds have knocked it over. Not too sure how these tent things will hold up to some of the high winds we've had latley, especially when empty.
I have often thought moving to a house with a garage just for the bike. I have garage envy.

I just got given this for free. Gotta reduce the size a bit though as it's 8m x 5m x 4.5m high. It's going to be my new workshop at 5m x 4m:
