Last nite on my way to meet a friend, I was on my bike and around feltham, sunbury area the traffic was at a standstill, which seemed really weird, so I was spent about 10 miles just filtering all this stand still traffic. As i was coming up to some lights in the far distance i was doing about around 20mph on the right at the traffic not a silly speed i know that for sure I suddenly saw a lexus turn on his right indicater and just dart right in front of me, I slam my brakes on but to no avail it was too late and I went head on into the side of this car and nearly got thrown over the top down to th fact that the bike swung round hit the car again and caught my foot and crunched it between the car and bike....... Evil or Very Mad so I'm now on friggin crutches and there is so much damage too my bike Evil or Very Mad and i just know Im gonna get the blame for this as the fucking witness and driver i hit were complete dickheads, I nearly fucking lamped the witness in th fucking temple coz the cunt was getting on my tits, saying shit like leave the bike were it is, it has to be seen by police for evidence, calling me an ambulance wen I told him within seconds that I didnt need one and just generally running around in a panic, what a twat!
So now to avoid insurance rocketing I have to ring the prick and lick his ass and offer to pay for the damage! Evil or Very Mad

Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt, Cunt and fucking Cunt! as you can see my language is going to be quite colourful over the next few weeks....

Dean

there are cunts and then there are cunts that drive Lexus Evil or Very Mad

bad luck mate .. your ankle/foot will heal, the bike can be fixed

I'm just glad you walked (or limped Wink away) .. I know people who haven't

I remember one of my mate's doing something very similar to the Lord Mayor of Newcastle's Rolls Royce on a CX500 so you can imagine the damage was significant and I think he ended up footing the bill..... so look on the bright side there's always someone done worse... Wink

Dean, what Jimbo said is correct! - amazing I know.
From your description, you were progressing down the outside of a line of traffic, and not inbetween two lines going in the same direction (am I right there?). If this is the case, what you were doing was perfectly legal. The Lexus driver pulled out without looking (driving without due care), causing you to hit him. That makes it his fault. In a situation like this, as long as your bike is legal ALWAYS insist on Police presance before you move the bike as it will help your case, and NEVER EVER admit liability.
Oh, and don't let a small accident put you off riding, you will regret it.

One thing about you english makes me laugh. If you have an acident everyone leaves everything as is until police get there to sort it out. Result large trafic jams etc. In RSA if the accident isn't cleared within 5 min everyone starts hooting there horns and shouting obscenities out the window. Even if they do wait for the police to arrive they tend to just ram the cars off the road with big trucks.
lol, the good ol south african way...

It's almost certainly all in your head. Try slowing down a bit (I know it's not natural), looking further ahead. Look into a 'Ride Safe' course with the local old bill. I guaruntee(sp?) you that if you give it up, as soon as the nice weather arrives (both weeks of it!) you will realise that you made a mistake.

Sorry to hear about that, hope you and bike are ok.

So long as you were on your side of the road whilst filtering then you should be ok.

Don't give up biking , perhaps it was his fault , perhaps yours. Just always expect the unexpected.

Regards,
Kevo.

There are no filtering rules Very Happy It's classed as overtaking.
let him know that if you go through ur insurance it'll go knock for knock and he''l still end up paying. They can't blame you at all.

they should include filtering i your cbt in my opinion! it took me months to get the guts to try it, the first few times feels really good Cool

If there are any police cars in the queue of traffic though i dare not filter past them incase i am breaking the law or something! definately not sure about it.

Im sorry to hear about your bike Sad it looks very very nice in your avatar, i hope you get it fixed nice and quickly ready for the sun Razz

unlucky mate Confused

Best bet may be to arrange for each of you to pay your own damages. Then you can just slap some straight bars on the bike, along with a small streetfighter 'token' headlight and practice some stunts Very Happy

hope it all works out.

It is a grey area. I have ridden with police riders who have advised me that it's ok as long as it's sensible and you maintain a steady speed, like 5mph so that you can stop if some arse pulls out on you or if you do hit them you won't do any harm.

But you MUST watch out for stuff like double whites and zig-zags, even at 5mph if you're filtering you are still overtaking and therefore a prime target for a nicking. It was the one thing he warned me about before the ride.

I doubt that the training schools will be able to get insurance for teaching filtering Confused I assume that you really mean that filtering should be taught in general? 'cos the whole point of Compulsory Basic Training is to ensure that you're fit to be a general motorist...and I dunno about other ppl, but when I did my CBT I was *completely* new to riding bikes, so filtering probably would've been too overwhelming for me Neutral
