PostPosted: 22:12 - 13 Apr 2008    Post subject: Beware Bikers Ahead! Reply with quote

The other week I went to the far side of Hereford /brecon Beacons way with my dad and brother to go karting at 'herefordshire raceway'.
On the way there I noticed yellow signs saying "Beware Bikers Ahead!", now the other day while returning from worcester on the back of my dads bike I spied another of these distinctive signs on a stretch approaching the Worcester/ Hereford/ Leominster roundabouts.

I was wandering are these just around worcestershire or has anyone seen them elsewhere?
In my mind they can only be a good thing because they are broadening awareness of bikers on large twist routes, and they appear to be very distinctive, clearly formated and displayed.
Does anyone know anything more about these? Are they part of a particular campaign?
Thanks

I've seen them on the back of the local arriva buses in the telford area, just a case of raising the profile of bikers as the summer only bikers come out

If it's the shinysideup partnership, the signs are placed on a motorcycle crash hotspot.

I remember seeing some once and spent the rest of the journey back wondering if it meant Beware, Bikers ahead or Beware Bikers ahead (as in be careful on this road you crazy bikers you).

That would be about as useful as a big sign on all the roads into London saying, 'WARNING... PEOPLE AHEAD.'

One good thing which could be used if someone SMIDSY'd you on these roads, is you could go and get pictures of the signs, and say they even had reminders on this road.

I've seen a couple of signs like that whilst riding through Wales - hopefully they work as some of the routes that are popular with bikes can be treacharous at times!

We took a trip up north to the "old country" visiting relatives a couple of weeks ago and there are definately a few on the A449 between Kidderminster and Wolverhampton, especially between Cookley and Wall Heath.

I was in the car though and didn't see any bikes...

I think they just got all over run with enthusiasm in Derbyshire because there's every type of sign all over the place.

They're meant to be placed at the scene of a past fatal motorcycle accident or notorious blackspot.

I live in Wales by the Brecon Beacons and it is a very popular route for bikes, the long open roads, and the big bends also are very popular, every Sunday there seems to be bike meets in one massive lay by and even burger vans etc seem to make it all the time! The signs are everywhere! Not that its a bad thing... Smile

I've also got one of their window stickers in the rear window of my car. Hopefully it will "educate" any drivers behind.

I realise it's unlikely, but it doesn't hurt to try...

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.
