Right, here we are again!

My new (old) gs500 e has what seems to be a very weak spark, i fitted new plugs today and it still appears weak, yet it does ignite the fuel... sometimes!

It takes a while for the spark to catch. Now it appears my battery is going as it wont hold a charge for very long at all, is it likely a new bettery would solve the problem of the wek spark or am i looking at coils and stuff?

If so what might be the answer to my problems?

I had a big backfire yesterday so im assuming theres fuel going through just not igniting.

Didnt think the battery controlled the spark apart from letting it spark by having enough power for it to know the ignition is armed.

Never try and diagnose anything electrical on a bike with a dead/flat battery. Instead of doing it's normal job (providing power in borderline situations, e.g. with an idling engine) it will instead suck up any available power stopping other things - like the sparks - working properly.

Indeed, charge your battery. Thumbs Up

A flat battery will absorb a lot of the charge coming from the alternator and will cause the weak spark you are getting.

EDIT: Spelling Confused

Well im just going to buy a new battery as this one is pretty dead to be fair.

Once i've got a new battery in place i'll see how the spark is. an no i dont yet have a multimeter but its one of those tools i need to buy as well as a spark plug socket, caliper piston pliers and a blow torch Very Happy

Just out of curiosity, if its not the battery is it likely to be anything expensive?
