Simple answer (probably) is there aint one mister. The Aprilia I've got does'nt have one either. Basically I fill the tank right up, set the mileometer to oooo then see when I need to switch over to reserve. I found when it gets to about 150km's to refill it and do the same again. I think a fair amount of bikes don't have them so I was a wee bit puzzled like you as well at first.

Cheers

Stu

It's easy...
On your speedo, just below the dial there is some numbers.
These represent the miles done since you last filled up, so you know how far you have left Smile.

(Okay, presuming you reset it everytime you get fuel Smile ).

Yep... it doesn't have a fuel gauge. Newer bikes often do, but even then aren't very accurate when you start throwing the bike about a bit.

You will have a reserve switch, which you can switch over when the 'main' is empty.

I have the same problem, its very unpredictable to tell when the fuel is low. I slosh myn and if its a big one its fine, but if its a small slosh. Head off down to the petrol station.

You should probably fill up every 100 - 120 miles with out reserve, depending how you ride. Don't forget to reset the tripometer.

I have a 2000 NSR and everyone is right about it having no fuel guage...the best thing to do would be fill her up one day and reset the trip meter then ride until you need to switch on your reserve. Take a note of the reading on the trip meter and there you go...remember how may miles you can do to a tank before you switch over to reserve.
As a rule i would try to keep the tank topped up whenever you can as if you run it down into the reserve a lot there is a danger of the sediment in the tank blocking the fuel line. Thumbs Up

Yup fill it up often as you can, nothing wrong with spending £3-£4 at a petrol station three times a week as opposed to £12 once a week!

If your really stumped then i am sure there will be the mpg/tankrange figure somewhere to give a rough estimate.

Remember in winter you will also be warming it up, and in town riding sitting still alot still burning fuel... i always aim to fill up at the latest 20miles before i think it might go onto reserve.

Although once or twice i have had a nasty suprise of my reserve light flicking on (CBR is auto-reserve) when i'm no where near a station!

We all thought it at some point.

I had a 50cc Gilera DNA that had a digital fuel gauge that would show me the exact number of bars i have left and had instructions how long each bar should last... and now on a 600cc CBR... without one!

Anyone know if theirs any peticular reason they arent very common?

cos they are pretty much usless! Size of tank and shape. Very difficult to get a good reading. Had one on the ER-5 I learnt on. Good for the first third of the tank but then it showed empty when there was a good half tank left! Best to use the speedo. My NSR did 120 before reserve. Best advice if you are unsure, ride till it conks out, switch on reserve and get to a petrol station!

Oh and always take your wallet out! Thumbs Up

Do remember though that its not a good idea (like a mate who was following me on his NSR) to be riding with a near empty tank very far, its not good when your overtaking in the outside lane of a dual carrigeway... cause when that engine conks out your going to have fun getting across with no power (unless you got a mate with a 600 to block cars for you Twisted Evil )

At least you've got a rev counter. I don't even have one of those.

A) You could have made a new thread
B) What bike is it?

There will be a fuel tap on one side of the bike,

It'll be a level that you flip Up for Reserve, Horizontal for Off and Down for On.

Someone'll know which side its on, but look under the seat type area (as in the area of the bike that is under the seat not under the seat itself)

It would have been better to start a new thread rather than resurrect one from 2005...

Still, on the NS125 the reserve switch is on the left just under where the riders seat is.

I assume you have an NS125, on the basis that you posted in this thread?
