Its called getting ahead Lone.
Youd study your arse off when you could you could do a few days work and still pass? Personal choice innit, and Im sure in the end it will make you better for it, appreciate everything more and feel as if you earned it. Some people just arent like that.
Im a bit of both. I say and do the right things when its expected of me, but i 'll do what i need to, to get ahead in my apprenticeship.
Grassing on your friend isnt really being a friend is it, if he isnt doing anyone harm. You would feel cheated because you didnt think to do it? Or is it because you prefer to work for something? if you do, then thats admirable and your choice. Cant force your choices on other people, and that would include dobbing your mate in. You would be getting him punished because of your own personal views.
If you need to work hard for months to pass, then thats just your way of doing it, its sorted. If he wants to pass and potentially not gain any knowledge, then fair enough.
One point though...it is worth actually learning shit at some point, as to excel once past the school/uni gates you actually have to put it into practice
*shrugs*
Not saying its 100% right, or wrong, but what the fuck isnt grey in todays society?

To be honest I'd let him carry on.
Saw this a few times at uni, people had little cheat sheets stashed away, shady visits to the toilet etc etc.
Didnt bother me in the slightest because whilst they may get a piece of paper that says they are capable of being able to do said task or are knowledgable about said subject, when it comes down to it they will fall on their arse, in front of their employer because they havent locked that knowledge in and goit it down pat, all they are gonna be able to do is think "shit, what did i scribble on that piece of paper", and when questioned by their gaffer "but didnt you say on your CV that this was a specialist area for you?" they are going to look pretty fucking stupid. Too much of that and its bye bye job.
You wont do any favours grassing on him, because not only will it comprimise your friendship with said person, but those around you will most probably be weary of you from that point, because in that situation people will tend to wonder if they can trust you, always wondering whether you'll switch it on them.
So yeah, all in all, if your studyin hard, taking it in, then it will pay off down the road. The guy that cheats and takes the easy path will down the line realise it wasnt the smart option. Unless of course he is one of these jammy bastards who can just absorb everything with the least effort like some sort of photographic memory type shit - then thats just sods law.

Oh aye, because everytime my boss gets me to do a piece of work he forbids me from using the internet, books or asking anyone else if I need a hand with something. In fact my whole office sits in an assembly hall, with the boss in front of a blackboard with "Silence" written on it and a large clock on his desk counting down. At the end of the day he asks us all to put our pencils down while he takes our work off us - and the miserable get doesn't even let us speak until we have left the room! (Oh and no toilet breaks unless it's an emergency and even then one of the other bosses has to go with you)
Well I was speaking from my own personal experience since I purify proteins for a living, I cant well type into google "Purify Transthyretin", click print and have a pure protein sat in front of me can I? Such abilities are gained from experience and practised practical abilities, coupled with my previous knowledge surrounding the subject. Sure, there are circumstances where you could check the internet or a book to gain the answer to what ever you need to find out, but when Im sat in a meeting with 6 superiors and they're asking me how Im going to go about acheiving so and so, or what complications I can expect to encounter whilst carrying out "X" and "Y", I cant very well say "excuse me for 5 minutes, I;ll just go check google or pop to the library".

When I mentioned something like this to my uncle he told me to take note and get used to the world.
He said it's like the interview procedure about 30% of the time. It's just a formality and the candidate who will win is someone of relevance to a key investor who heavily suggests them during the next poker night/golf game.
