Now as much as I like to think that I ride my bike purely for the sheer thrills of a good sunny blast through the twisties there is always that small lil green monster they call a conscience...
That lil bugger tells me things I know, but am really to ashamed to admit...I am bushguy and I am a poser.
So I ask you to reassure me that i'm not alone in having certain...vein thoughts.
Whats better, the afor mentioned twisties on a glorious day with sun on your back, or pulling up at your local and knowing the totty is going weak at the knees at the mere sight bad ass-ness you ooz?
The thought of being elbow deep in a stripped down engine or the envy of every mid-life crises suffering male who gazes upon you and your mighty steed?
So guys, what does it for you? Was it the look of it all that got you into bikes in the first place? Or are you a true thoroughbred rider?

I got into it for the image, I love the gear, I love bikes.

Plus the noise and the easily accessible speed.

I like the feeling when you pull up at the traffic lights and people stare.

I also blame games like Road Rash for that bad ass race every where and beat the hell out of every one sort of thing Laughing

I love the feeling of being part of a group and all that.

Most of all I love the rush you get from riding fast and those near misses.

I love the smell of bikes to.

I could go on for ages. Laughing

I have been into bikes since I could walk barely because my step dad had them. Among the worst was a bloody honda silverwing the prick. But he also had a norton commando, not sure if it was the 750 or 850 but I have always wanted either of those, including all the JPS nortons.

But yeah the look matters as well Embarassed Because not matter what sheds I ride kids always point, sometimes they laugh but they ALWAYS point. Embarassed

Bit of both really.

Thats not part of it at all for me.

I have to admit, its probably 50% riding and 50% working on bikes for me. I probably enjoy them equally but in different ways.

Posing is only a very minor part of it, if anything at all I would say.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

50/50 for me too.
I've always loved bikes, the speed, the feeling of freedom - got hooked when I was a kid when I went to HongKong and sat behind my uncles bike - loved it ever since.
I'm a posing whore also, and love the tight leathers look and long hair blowing in the wind - tis HAWT. AND you can't beat that feeling when fellow commuters, pedestrians have to do a double-take because its a GIRL on a bike. It's also funny but annoying when people come up to you randomly after taking your lid off and then exclaim that I don't 'look like a biker'. I mean - what does a biker look like?

If I didn't get a major buzz out of riding for the sake of riding I wouldn't ride, but there is certainly a significant element of larging it up for the benefit of onlookers, especially the opposite sex.

Shallow and pathetic, but strangely gratifying.

I can't actually remember what I got into bikes for in the first place. Looking back I guess it was something I wanted to try. Like a lot of people I had every intention of just riding the RXS100 on L-plates but got hooked and that went out of the window.

The image bit can be fun but I'm not really a typical "biker". Then again I don't know anyone my age who actually is. As for the image my bike presents, no-one's going to be particularly impressed by a 20-year-old Honda 250 with a huge dent in the tank. That's not at all to say I don't care about how my bike looks though, just that I can't afford a good one at the moment!

I do enjoy the mechanics aspect of it, up to a point. I'm also interested in classic cars and had quite a bit of mechanical experience beforehand which helps.

I suppose I just really enjoy riding bikes and having a laugh on them.

Massive high from biking. Love everything about bikes.

But pose factor is good Laughing

For instance, I was the first out of my group of normal friends to get fast transport (being the only one that could afford it at the time, cos i have a good job lol)

So turning up at your all your mates college on a zx6r just as you turn 18 is rather satisfying, when you rev it once to the redline for all the onlookers.

And every one of your mates is just like Surprised Shocked Mr. Green Surprised Very Happy Shocked Surprised

Its fantastic.

And now Im getting better at general stuntages (read getting better, NOT good)

Wheelying past a gorgeous lass in her Mini to have her open the window at the next set of lights and wolf whistle, and ask for your number is rather cool Laughing Though when you lift up your dark visor, not even a zx6 can keep up with a woman trying to get away, that fast Wink haha

Thumbs Up

yeh i would be lieing if i said i didnt like the way everyone tries to race you, or the way people stare. I love coasting up to the lights all stealthy, then reving, everyone stares, and if doesnt work backfiring will. That said i would rather be in a group, everone with loud cans, everyone stares, no exceptions.
That said i still love riding old shitters, more understated, riding fast is 75% of it, and the other 25 is poseing and working on bikes

My bike is a life support machine. I need to plug into it every now and then to remember what being alive feels like. It is what feels natural, like breathing or swimming in the sea. it is an extension of my being. And i think i look good in shop windows. Laughing

The freedom you get from it is a big thing for me, I feel all lethargic and depressed whenever I can't ride my bike for whatever reason.

Bikers are an elite. Ok, there are a percentage who pootle along on commuters at 35mph, they don't really count. But anyone who gives it some, facing almost certain death or horrific injury if they come off (a considerable percentage) is a god amongst men. Hundreds of thousands of sackless drones in their cars, trains, buses, whatever, vs a relative handful who confront a substantial risk of obliteration everytime they go on a mad one. A thousand years ago we were steaming across the battlefield on horseback, hacking and chopping with mad abandon. What's not to pose about? Cool

Clapping Clapping Well said mr Hetzer Very Happy love it.

I dont really do the posing thing, im sure I would if I was in the right shape for a slinky 1 piece suit but I look like a tellytubby Very Happy That said I do like the badboy/rebel attitude that seems to stick to you like glue from other non-bikers - I guess that is as much posing as the latter.

I ride for transport, I ride to blow the cobwebs out of my head after a long few days being PC bound with work but most of all I love the camaradrie you get when you are with other riders.

cheers

leigh Very Happy

For me though, the lure of bikes is their speed - i doubt i'll ever be able to afford a car that will give me similar (and such easily accesible) performance as what my bike gives me.
Equally, driving a car fast does not provide me with the same reward as thwapping a bike, nor does it get me into a similar mental state - i find riding my bike induces a seperate state of consciousness, a form of (fast) moving meditation.

Posing? No thanks. I don't like being a focus of attention.

Bikes are all about personal challenge for me, the riding process is so much more involved than driving a car, the speeds and risks so much greater - all in all a much more demanding experience.

Riding/driving offers unique challenge, combining spatial awareness, fine hand eye co-ordination, high sensitivity, logical thought processes, and a requirement to remain calm when at any moment you could fuck up and die.

I couldn't give a shit what people think I look like, its all about me when I ride. Don't even like riding with others, they just add an impurity to the experience.

More of a fetish......

I like having flammable liquids right next to my plums.
Before i got a bike, you would find me at my local petrol station humping the pumps.

It took me 32 years to get the balls to pass my DAS and get a bike, And it feels like I have been reborn (I liken t to the scene in the matrix when keanu is unplugged from the matrix!) I dont care about the Image what I care about is the exciment I feel when I wheel my bike from the garage.

Maybe its because otherwise my life is quite drab, and motorbiking has injected that bit of needed adrenaline!

Now that i've been consigned to using my bike as a commuting tool/mule, it's getting less orientated to image. I LOVE how people stare at me at lights, notice me at uni and say "that's a nice bike"... But then again, I just love hooning it through the valleys on the weekends. Gone are the days when i used to stoppie at every light and wheelie into college.

My old man inadvertantly got me into biking when i used to ride his Piaggio NRG illegally (when i was 13/14), this was back in 2000. Used to get noticed whenever my old man dropped me off at school before going straight to work. Then when i got my CBT done, i got hooked ever since... Used to go to the local sainsburys to do shopping for my mum(1 mile away) then end up in central london for a few hours!

Then again, you have that image factor. My mates at uni have all confessed "I can't imagine Titot without a bike or without his bike gear or" so the image of me as a biker is instantly associated with my name amongst my mates.
