Well, my friend just told me that the holographic sticker on my GPZ is a datatag,

basically I just wondered what its for, how i'd use it,

and what it would be called so i could notify my insurers that I have it.

Any replies are apprechiated.

Thanks,

Timmyboynorwich

Datatag`s more than just a sticker......it`s a process whereby all the major parts of the vehicle are chemically etched for ID and there`s a couple of transponders installed for scanners too.
If it`s actually "datatag" and not smartwater or one of the others...that`s what you`ll need to tell your insurers you`ve got.
Some tagging services don`t qualify for insurance discounts though.....but datatag does.

To update your details as the new keeper will set you back £15 or it did back in 2005 and does bugger all to the insurance.

oh well..there may have been other contributing factors like area you live/storage etc etc ???

I had datatag on my first bike but the more i thought about it the more i thought i`d wasted my money tbh.
It`s only useful if a stolen bike`s found....but what`s the chances of that these days??
Most of them get stripped down for parts anyway so unless you want 30% of a bike back in pieces over 3-5 years...it`s useless...lol

Yeah, but you can't put money on getting your pride and joy back, so i'm happy paying £15.50 =D

1 More question is, does the datatag thing only come into play if the police come across my bike?

yes...the tags show legal ownership of the bike/parts and the numbers are stored on a database so they can check.
