Just wondering what people's opinions of ATVs were. There are probably a few people on BCF who own an example and many more will have ridden them, so I guess this is just kind of an 'appreciation' thread. Feel free to post pictures (this is the pictures board after all) of ones you own or have ridden.

I'd love to own one but I can see them being more practical out in the sticks. I recently rode two out in the desert around Dubai and it was brilliant fun.

I had a brief go on a Yamaha Grizzly 125:

My girlfriend was riding this one because she's short and it's small so it was less intimidating. Seemed pretty capable for a 125 and pretty comfy too. Can't argue with Yamaha's expertise either.

I was mainly riding an Aeon Cobra 220:

Despite the name it's only 200cc, but had easily enough power for donuts in the sand and to get up some pretty big dunes. Managed to scare myself almost coming off over a jump so I stuck to blasting up big dunes or flying along at around 45+ mph on bumpy sand racing the gf's brother.

Really really good fun, if I lived in the UAE and had desert to play in, or if I lived in the UK in the middle of nowhere, or in a snowy climate nothing would stop me buying one.

While I was out there I also took this pic of a guy on what looks like a Yamaha Raptor having a bit of fun in the sand:

So yeah: Your quad experiences and pics please Cool

I did an organised day which involved blasting round the woods on some 400s many many moons ago. Good fun all round and only one of group ended the day in a back brace on the way to hospital, which was a lower injury count than I'd have expected given none of us had a clue what we were doing. No pics from the day sadly.

I had a Suzuki LT70 as a child, which was great fun to ride around on my dads land. I have a few pictures of it but they're in the U.K and I'm on holiday at the moment. It's funny you mentioned Dubai as I'm out here right now.

I've also been playing on the Quads out in the deserts and on the beaches. I found the Quadzilla 350 to be the most interesting to ride so far, with a decent amount of power but the one thing I've learnt is the 2 strokes (e.g Banshee etc.) seem a lot faster and exhilerating, to be totally honest the power delivery of the 4 strokes are a little boring but at top speed they can be reasonably quick. I also have quite a few pictures of me and my brother racing around on the quads out here but these pcs don't seem to have memory card readers so I'll post them when I get back in about 2 weeks.

I'll look for a 2 stroke rental when I go on the Desert Safari on Monday and let you know what those are like if you want. As to your girlfriend riding a 4 stroke 125cc Quad, did it actually move? Laughing

I intend to buy a Quad for the U.K Roads at some point after I get back (maybe after the Summer is over as I want to sufficiently play with the CBR 400 first) as I can ride one one my car license, I'll probably start off with something a bit tame as it would be my first road quad rather than jumping on a particularly expensive 2 stroke one straight away but it will have to be one with a manual gearbox, hopefully that will help with the slightly lame acceleration.

For a budget one with a manual gearbox, I found this:

The quad rental place I went to was off a motorway between Sharjah and Ajman. There were about five places all in one space and we eventually rented three quads at dhs120 (about £17) for an hour each.

Last time I was over last October I rode a roughly 200cc manual two-stroke and it was bloody quick but I went for an auto this time as I still don't even have my CBT and so with the manual I was kind of dropped in at the deep end! Good fun though, dropping the clutch and throwing a load of sand into the air Razz

Chose an auto one this time as I could just enjoy the riding a little more and concentrate less on gear changes! Not a problem if you already ride a bike such as yourself. Endless desert to explore though, must have gone at least a kilometer and a bit out into the desert.

It is amazing how cheap some of those ebay ones are. The idea of riding on the road doesn't appeal to me so much, I just wish I had a big field near me that I could use!

I think the Yamaha Banshee is one of the nicest quads at the mo, 350cc two stroke, looks good fun:

Oh and the 125cc Yam, it wasn't too bad, honestly! With a run up she was getting up some pretty decent dunes Smile
