What's the biggie?

All my friends used to go on and on about it like it was the best thing ever invented.
So I had it for the 1st time and I thought meh Neutral

Is the liquor usually more flavoursome? It just tasted of thickened water with a hint of parsley.
The pie had a nice crispy top and minced beef - but nothing a Greggs pie can't beat.
The mash - more butter please!

Mega disappointed!!

Google image but pretty much the same as I had tonight

personally, if that "meal" turned up on my plate (the one in your image) i'd send it back with a turd sitting on the top. It looks disgusting..

a proper pie, with proper mash, and proper gravy is what people love. not a crap pie, with crap mash, and a parsley (wtf?) gravy. That isn't what the meal is about.

Where did you have the meal? At a restaurant or home cooked?

Pie & Mash is one of my all time favorite meals, but it all depends where you eat it. Some don't get it right, others get it perfect.

I could drink the green liquor on its own.

I might have to try the Romford one then!!
I went to the new Pie and Mash shop in lakeside.

Pie, mash with loads of gravy is usually the way I like it.
But everyone bangs on about the traditional liquor gravy (green snotty looking parsley sauce).
I'm Neutral ....I thought this green liquor was what everyone favoured

Shocked WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THAT PIE AND MASH!!!!!!!!!!?????

Pie and mash should only be eaten with more pie and mash, and a generous portion of liquor!

Yes, apparently it's traditional.
Could it be Essex, East London thing? Not sure??

I paid £3.50 for 2 lumps of mash, the pie and green liquor gravy.
Basically got mugged!! Evil or Very Mad

Glad you have posted this, I was tempted by the Lakeside one the other day when I was at work, looks a bit too much like the Katie Price of the Pie and Mash world.

Liquor is the green stuff, I don't think anybody knows what is actually in it Laughing Well apart from parsley.

Vinegar is an acceptable addition to pie and mash. Peas and Gravy are not Gravy baby! Embarassed Laughing [/i]

Pie and Mash is becoming rarer and rarer. Although Ive not tried it at this place in lakeside. Im quite tempted now.

Originated in the east end apparently, i remember eating it a lot as a kid. Typical menu in the shop looked like this:

1 Pie and 1 mash
1 Pie and 2 mash
2 pie and 2 mash
2 Pie and 3 mash
3 Pie and 3 mash
Pie
Mash
Jellied eels

Although I remember getting a take away from the one in Basildon, and they ran out of mash...

so i had three pies Smile

I also remember seeing the girl who works in the Basildon pie and mash shop when I was out on the lash.

She wasnt impressed with 5 of us all chanting PIE AND MASH to her.

thats about everything pie and mash related i have to add.

Didn't like the one in Basildon, not sure why because everybody else loves it.

the_godfather is back from uni for a week so despite the fact that I am flat broke I will still find the money to get pie and mash at some point this week!

BCF trip to Romford pie and mash anybody? Laughing

"You Scottish folk with your disgusting culinary ways give me a heart attack just looking at it."

I feel this thread, and particularly the picture at the top of the page, is the perfect time to inform the English that they can fuck off. That looks like someone made a puffpastry kiev and spat some regurgitated instant mash beside it.

(By the way, I'm immune from your hurtful comments since I don't eat deep fried filth, so nyeh! Twisted Evil )

P.s. That dinner would go good inside a bap.

As for jellied eels, they serve as nothing but a reminder that you're closer to France.

funnily enough, I hadnt heard of parsely liquor a few days ago, but I googled parsely as I have some growing in the garden and need to think of things to do with it.

Like most things you can get good or bad versions of the same dish.

Bad fish and chips doesnt mean that there is no such thing as good fish and chips.

I've had good pie and mash, but have never tried this parsley liquor. I might try making some though as I have loads of parsley in the garden.

My thoughts too. I find the best ones are the ones that have been around for a while, so a new one in a mall is asking for trouble. Smile
