Hi

I know a few people on here have done it, so a few Q's.

16 races in the season, but can you do, say just 5 of them for fun? And not pay for all 16.

How much on top of the cost of a road bike would I be looking at to get a relatively 'sorted' bike?

Any other tips etc.

2 races per day, two days per weekend. 8-10 weekends per year.

Can do as many weekends as you want, but you pay for the whole weekend, not per day.

I would seriously look at starting from a race bike, rather than the other way around - much cheaper.
Second set of wheels with wets - £300
Suspension - (£200-£1000)
Bodywork - £250
+ lots more bits and pieces

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about racing until you can hold your own in an average fast group - however for some, definitely, it's been that extra 'push' to bring them on a load.

This isn't extremely near future - I'm just looking into it.

The other option is CB500 Cup, which seems cheap. Or Desmodue.

They're both run with New Era, which is more northen.

You can get a half-decent curvey minitwin from around £1500.

Ok, you want ultra-budget... £150 or so on suspension (GSXR rear shock, 2nd hand spings + damping unit), 2nd hand set of WOW £225 (talk to me ).
Belly pan - home made.
A big roll of gaffatape.

I would definitely reccomend tyre warmers if you can - try and find someone friendly to blag power off.

What would you recommend, for on a budget?

Bit of a stupid question with racing. Basically looking for a track bike that I can have the option of racing.

Racing on a budget -
Personally I'd mostly stick with Bemsee, though they can be a bit more expensive due to the level of competition.
Minitwins will make a cheap track bike, but not so cheap race bike if you don't want to get frustrated - really needs fresh tyres every weekend.
You could consider Yamaha Past masters, which you need maybe two sets of tyres for a full season and can pick bikes up for not too much to start with.

Well I've found an SV650S 02, with 14k on it, Cat C, but with very good silver (sellable) bodywork, givi rack (sellable) but other than that standard.

Needs LH rearset and a clutch lever, service.

Doesn't seem that great; a while ago I paid £1k for a pretty good condition 99 with maybe 20k on the clocks (definitely no more than that) - needed a new reg/rec, but that was it.

Luke's race bike sold for maybe £1500-1750 or something and this was a dead-on-the-72hp-limit with ohlins suspension and wets on wheels, paddock stands etc.

Ok, won't be so many race bikes around for sale now, but you get the idea.

Yep.

The cheaper and more appealing series (for me) seems to be the Desmodue.

That, and slower. Not sure if that's good or bad, but things like a control (road) tyre will keep costs down.

Remember transport and safety aspects.

Back end of bemsee clubman minitwins is still pretty reasonably paced - just gets a lot hotter as you get to the front and up to dyna-pro.

If your just planning on doing a few races you cant go wrong with minitwins as the standard is very varied through the pack, you can pick up a minitwin race bike relatively cheaply and you know that it should be easy to sell on afterwards.

Oh one last thing, can I borrow it for the weekends you arn't racing
