hi im looking to get my CBT and go on to a full bike test. Now the main reson for all this is fuel. I want to save money, My mate has a honda fire blade 1000cc and says that he only gets 70 miles per 15 quid out of his bike now is this the same on most bikes or just on his. im looking for something that dose better then 50 mpg and is able to go on the motor way. Karma Can anyone give me some advice, sorry im a car nut and am just looking for a way to save money and have some fun on the side

Welcome to the forums Thumbs Up

The 1000cc fire blade is a full on sports bike, designed to be as fast as possible, fuel economy wasnt at the fore front of the designers midns when it was made. Smile

That is the far extreme of the scale, at the other end a 125cc 4 stroke will do 100 miles per gallon, or about 300 miles per tank but a 125 on a motorway isnt fun

The 500cc commuters will get in excess of 50mpg, have a look at the GS500, CB500, ER-5 etc etc
Cheap to buy too, have a look on Bike trader to get an idea

My 600 Hornet gets about 45mpg,which is basically a 600cbr, with less tuning and with its clothes off. Smile

I have been on 50s and 125 before i pass my car test and have been on a bike on a track no bigger then 250. I am a van driver by trade its just the bike stuff that worries me.

they use the same bank of questions as the test so the 50 questions will be similar
Not sure if the hazard perception ones are the same, but they will be similar to the practise ones

As for the test, when you take your CBT ask them about doing the full test and they will have an idea of how long you will need

I had 3 months practise on a 125 and i had 3 days training and test on the 4th day. I passed first time

Everyone is different, what one person picks up easily, it may take anotehr one a bit longer. Equally you could be a total natural and pass in 1 day

You over 21? If not you will do the restricted test which is limited to 33bhp for 2 years. If over 21 you can do the full unrestricted test
Both tests are teh same, apart from the restricted is done on a 125, and the full one is done on a 500 normally

I too am riding for the economic benefits (but I luckily happen to really enjoy it too!), currently a 4 stroke 125 which I plan to ride for a little while after I get my full license, and I get about 100 miles to the gallon out of it. Fantastic fuel economy, but lacks power for those national speed limit roads!

I'll probably move up to a 4 stroke 250 which does around 60-70 miles to the gallon and would have a little more oomph (I think they get to speeds of about 80/90mph), a decent compromise between power and fuel economy in my opinion. Looking at the Honda CBF250 or Kawasaki Ninja 250 right now, just need a reliable workhorse to use a lot (commuting and other trips) that is as cheap as possible to run!
