Hi,
Im doing cadwell on wedenesday. It starts early so i will be going up from Great Yarmouth tomorro evening about 7ish. Aiming to get to cadwell about 10-11ish. Just wondering what the deal is with camping, says on the website that camping is available.

Does it cost?

Can I just turn up at anytime?

What are the facilities like?

Call to confirm details.

Probably turn up anytime, but they may close gates at around midnight - if they do, you can probably just camp some where along the entrance bit before the gates.

Usually costs £5 (well, did last time I camped at an MSV circuit.

There's lit but not heated toilets/washroom and a shower room (communal for men).
No power for your use.

Oh and I'd be thinking you'd more be talking 11-12 at least if leaving at 7 - I'd try and leave earlier if you can. Usually takes me about 4 hours from Reading to Lincoln and Cadwell is at least half an hour further from Lincoln.

Thanks muchly, will ring them tomorro to find out about camping. Will try to leave earlier but Im having to try and hire the van and they dont have one available till late in the day. If not ill just be riding the bike up. Usually takes me 3hrs 15mins to get to nottingham so hopefully I should make lincoln within the 4 hour mark.

Anyone got anytips for tying a bike down in a standard SWB transit?

Yes. Make sure the van has tie down points. Push the bike as far forward in the van as it will go, and cable tie the brake on.

Put the bike on its sidestand first of all in the centre of the van, then loop a webbing hook strap over your bottom yoke and feed the loose end through the closed hole in the bottom part of the hook so it goes around the fork. Take the actual ratchet part and hook it to the tie down point in the van. Close the ratchet and feed the loose end of the bit looped around the fork leg through the ratchet reel. Pull it tight and then open and close the ratchet a bit to start to tighten it. Do the same on the other side and then get a helper to stand the bike upright. Tighten both straps.

Now do the same on the pillion footrest hangers to the back of the van. Make sure all four are tight and the bike is upright.

Pretty much the front two tie downs need to be pulling the bike to either side and forward at the same time, and the back ones need to be pulling the bike to either side and backwards.

HTH.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Leave the bike in gear too.

In a van I generally just use one tie-down for trail bikes and two for race bikes, but usually my bikes have cosmetic 'imperfections' in the first place.

Bendy's selling-for-lots Speed triple got a luxury four tie downs when we delivered it!

Don't need 'official' tie down points, but something strongish at least.

Yeah most hire transits have tie down loops, but some have ply lining which covers the loops. I had to cut a hole in one van to access the tie down point. The issue I found is that there was nowhere else to tie the bike down to at all. You could potentially ratchet it to the seat framework, but I don't really trust it because the tie downs can move up and down.

Sorted the camping, £5 for the night and they're open all night. Just gotta steal some ratchet straps from work now and make a ramp to get the bikes in the van.
