No I'm a full blooded Englishman. However I have spent a lot of time working with Sweaties and Druids and they tend to react aggressively to things like this Rolling Eyes

lol, isnt scotland, like a little island of the coast of england?? Very Happy
haha i kill myself,
some of the geography here is terrible Very Happy

i think a kiwi should do a bit of educating to the english,
scotland is attached to england alot like how wales is attached to england Very Happy,
like the welsh, but unlike the welsh they also have their own language, 2 infact, Gaelic (which is only basically spoken in the outer hebrides and the northern isles as well as in Nova Scotia, canada) and scots, which is a mix of english and gaelic, but a debatable language in itelf, to me it sounds like english with a lot of words i can't understand Very Happy

basically, if you can't understand them, well too bad for you, because they don't teach them in school to speak english any more,
(im serious, teachers in scotland can't correct a child for bad grammer if its deemed to be "scots")

not that half you english can speak english any way Very Happy

i'll grab my coat on the way out Very Happy
hehe

hi,
grammar has nothing to do wth scots language/dialect.
school pupils are not encouraged to speak scots at school & certainly are forbidden for writing in scots.
gaelic is not only spoken in outer hebrides & northern isles.
taught in schools in central scotland,
Glasgow has at least one gaelic school.
scots is not a mixture of english & gaelic.
& although scotland was formally a nation, its now a devolved part of the uk,
with its own parliament.,
one step away from independence & being a nation again!
cheers

Everyone is forgetting it doesn't matter where Scotland is, all that matters is that the Scottish live in Scotland, which I beleive is their country as opposed to:

It has been 'our country' since 1707.

[Ali G]

Not many people know that Scotland is in fact a country, and it is less than 200 miles from Britain.

(I know he was talking about 'the Wales' when he made the comment, but it still holds true)

ill think you'll find mate, that they may not be encourged to speak scots, but they can not be corrected in any way by the teachers if they do, and the same can be said if they write in scots, (my girlfriend is a primary teacher here in scotland)
i am aware that gaelic is now being taught in middle scotland, but the only real places it can be spoken fluently is in the outer isles,
only 1 % can speak gaelic, i hope it makes a come back and its a shame it was forced out in the first place,

i think scots is a mix, of gaelic and english,
it may have evolved further from gaelic and closer to english these days, but it still started as gaelic,
