 |

Firstly, Not sure if this should be in 'Workshop' so if it is viewed as the wrong area, i apologise and can a mod please move it
History; Bought my bike with two frames, one damaged (with number plate) one not damaged (no number plate) so i used the damaged frames number plate and got the v5 and filled in the change to the frame, and thats where they got me in for a VIC, and have now told me im getting a q-plate.
Now then, got my paperwork through today about applying for an MSVA for my bike that needs re-registering on a 'Q'.
The DVLA have give me a list of what i need to get my V5 back.
£55 reg fee
Frame number to be stamped on bike and proog sent back
An MSVA
Completed V55/5
ID
Now my questions are..
On the V55/5 how important is all the data such as emissions and braking distances etc. etc. I have all the important stuff but i have no idea about the rest. Will my application be returned or delayed if it is not 100% complete?
Also i find it outrageous that not only must i pay £55 for the registration fees but now i find out that an MSVA is £70!!!!
Plus van hire to get me there!
Now, on the MSVA form it syas max vehicle speed, for a 50cc it stated it must be less than 28mph. How strict are they going to be as even if my 28 year speedo overeads quite a bit i still cant see it being under 28mph. Will they fail you for over that? Not a great deal, probably about 35mph.
Another thing.. On the back its got all the small print and it says an MSVA doesnt apply if the vehicle is over 10 years old, now mines a 1980, so do i not need one? Shall i contact them and tell them about it Tuesday?
Thanks for reading.. Ant ____________________ 1980 Suzuki TS50 ~ 1984 Honda CB400N ~ 1992 Triumph Trident ~ 1998 Suzuki Bandit 1200 |

I think you need to fill out one of these. A letter from Suzuki saying that the frame no. indicates that the bike was built in 1980 should be sufficient evidence. This whole process is fairly common when restoring old (but usually much older) vehicles that have been unused for a while as their number plates are often lost.
Another thought - have you checked that the DVLA don't already have the frame number on their computer? Unless the bike was always used as an off-road bike from new then it should be on there as by 1980 the records were computerised (IIRC). ____________________ Chris

If the bike hasn't previously been registered (or the original registration has been lost) then you should be able to get an age-related plate. In your case that'll either be a V or W suffix plate. If the bike has previously been registered and the DVLA have it on their record then you may be able to reclaim the original plate.
This might be helpful. It seems that owner's clubs can provide dating certificates. Also looks like you have to get the bike MOTd before you can proceed too - the garage will use the frame number as the 'registration mark'. ____________________ Chris
