Firstly, Not sure if this should be in 'Workshop' so if it is viewed as the wrong area, i apologise and can a mod please move it Smile

History; Bought my bike with two frames, one damaged (with number plate) one not damaged (no number plate) so i used the damaged frames number plate and got the v5 and filled in the change to the frame, and thats where they got me in for a VIC, and have now told me im getting a q-plate.

Now then, got my paperwork through today about applying for an MSVA for my bike that needs re-registering on a 'Q'.

The DVLA have give me a list of what i need to get my V5 back.

Arrow £55 reg fee
Arrow Frame number to be stamped on bike and proog sent back
Arrow An MSVA
Arrow Completed V55/5
Arrow ID

Now my questions are..

On the V55/5 how important is all the data such as emissions and braking distances etc. etc. I have all the important stuff but i have no idea about the rest. Will my application be returned or delayed if it is not 100% complete?

Also i find it outrageous that not only must i pay £55 for the registration fees but now i find out that an MSVA is £70!!!!

Plus van hire to get me there!

Now, on the MSVA form it syas max vehicle speed, for a 50cc it stated it must be less than 28mph. How strict are they going to be as even if my 28 year speedo overeads quite a bit i still cant see it being under 28mph. Will they fail you for over that? Not a great deal, probably about 35mph.

Another thing.. On the back its got all the small print and it says an MSVA doesnt apply if the vehicle is over 10 years old, now mines a 1980, so do i not need one? Shall i contact them and tell them about it Tuesday?

Thanks for reading.. Ant Thumbs Up

Has the frame you've used got a frame number on it? If it has then it might be easier to send a rubbing of it to Suzuki, who should be able to tell you when it was made. You should then be able to use this to register the frame (on an age-related plate), which will allow you to avoid all the MSVA crap.

Yeah it has a frame number, but they said that when it was inspected they could not find one, but the guy wrote it down Confused

I will get in touch with Suzuki! How do i go about applying for an age related plate? They are NEVER helpful when i ring them Evil or Very Mad

I would rather any route really than the MSVA.

Thanks mate, Ant.

I think you need to fill out one of these. A letter from Suzuki saying that the frame no. indicates that the bike was built in 1980 should be sufficient evidence. This whole process is fairly common when restoring old (but usually much older) vehicles that have been unused for a while as their number plates are often lost.

Another thought - have you checked that the DVLA don't already have the frame number on their computer? Unless the bike was always used as an off-road bike from new then it should be on there as by 1980 the records were computerised (IIRC).

Thanks again Chris Thumbs Up Karma

So, am i right in thinking if i complete one of those forms and a letter from Suzuki they will give me the registration of the original plate? Or the plate relating to the frame?

Also, Lets say that i had this letter, thus proof the bike is 'nore than 10 years old' would this definately eliminate my bike from being subject to an SVA to use on the road again?

That way, all i would have to do, is simply get the letter of Suzuki, complete my V55/5, begrudgingly pay £55 Evil or Very Mad and i would get my Q-plate?

Am i missing anything or is that right?

Thanks Chris, Ant.

If the bike hasn't previously been registered (or the original registration has been lost) then you should be able to get an age-related plate. In your case that'll either be a V or W suffix plate. If the bike has previously been registered and the DVLA have it on their record then you may be able to reclaim the original plate.

This might be helpful. It seems that owner's clubs can provide dating certificates. Also looks like you have to get the bike MOTd before you can proceed too - the garage will use the frame number as the 'registration mark'.
