Hello All,

I have been riding a new Suzuki Marauder 125 for 5 hours a week since August 2007, and with its 2nd service (2500 miles) I have just had the front brake pads changed by J and P's, to me this doesn't add up! surely they shouldn't need changing less than a year old??

Your thoughts and advice please?
Cheers
Phil

They have done the work so I have the front new brake pads, but i want to know if they have lied to me about it, just to get 77 quid out of me, how can they be worn out already?? I really feel like want to take this further, or at least not let it happen again?

Did you ask to see the old ones? Why didn't you check over the bike before you took it in to see if anything needed doing?

I got my 2006 maurader brake pads changed last week, its done nearly 4000 miles - cost me £15 for the pads + £10 labour.

I don't go to a dealership garage though, its guy that has his business at home

Bikes can chew through a set of brake pads very quickly. It is possible to get through a set in 2500 miles with above average braking. I used to get through a set in 3000 miles on my old VX800 and that was mainly using engine braking - it was just a big heavy bike with a single disc up front.

Learn to do your own work. Changing brake pads, particularly front brake pads, is one of the easiest jobs you can do. The pads should cost you about £15.

thing is the shop has to consider whether the pads have enough meat on them to last until the next service, and if not change them, if the pads went down to the metal 1000 miles later wouldn't you then complain that they weren't changed on the service?

2500 miles sounds about right, ive munched a set in 900 miles before.

Learn to do it yourself, its no biggy and saves you alot of cash!

No they should be advising you that the pads may require changing before the next service NOT doing it without asking. Unless the OP has asked them to do anything that is needed they should not do anything outside the service booked in without permission.

They should also have all the old parts ready for you to look at and take away with you.

Time to find a new garage, or learn to DIY Thumbs Up
