nc30 help

right mates got a nc30

battery keeps going dead when headlights are on reg/rec changed 3 times battery is new loom has been changed bulbs changed for the correct ones that cost about £30 each

the only thing that hasnt been changed is the genarator

is there a way to test it ? and any other help will be appreciated

Not sure if its related but if its an imported model, have you done the headlight relay mod? The jap model takes lower rated bulbs (35/60w H4) and only has a relay for hi beam. Hence with 55/60w H4 bulbs everytime you switch the headlights on it will put an additional current (55% extra) through the switch and on a repetitive basis will see it burning it out. Not sure if this would cause your problem though. You have mentioned sticking the "correct" bulbs so i assume you havent got the mod.

One simple way to see if the generator works is if you rev the engine with the lights on they should go a tad brighter as the alternator tops the battery up

go to maplin electrconics, buy a multimeter for £5 and take a reading across battery terminals, with engine runnning, when its off with lights on and lights off, see whats its putting out then you can see where the problem lies!

done all that already

get the same reading all the time which indicates a good charge Confused

this is what i dont understand there is a really good charge while the bike is at idle and when revving but the battery still keeps going flat Confused

nope havent done that

and yes they are the 35/60 bulbs

i cant see how that would cause the battery to go flat though Confused but anything is worth a try

is there a link to this mod ?

thanks for the link but it doesnt need a relay as it has got the standard bulbs fitted

although it has had 55/60w bulbs in before im just wondering if that could have damaged any wiring before ???

sorry.... can you post the voltage when the bike is off... when the bike is on but lights are off and when the lights are on and the bike is on and then lastly when the bike is rev'd. How old is the battery? take it to a shop and get them to use a hydrometer thing to test the acid, normally free just incase its low on acid and needs a top up...

its a sealed battery it cant be topped up its brand new

battery always reads above 12.5v when bike is at idle its 13.67v with lights on always around 13.50v when revved the highest we saw was 14.10v without lights and 14.01v with lights Confused
