I am having my 2001 NSR125 de-restricted this weekend. I would like to install a different exhaust, something that looks more 'beefy' - any suggestions or recommendations will be appreciated.
Regards
Russell

Get a Micron paddock stand Smile
you're getting it de-restricted? by a dealer?
It's very easy to do it yourself mate, there's a guide on www.nsr125.com.
you don't need extensive tools or knowledge, just a few spare drill bits!

about the sound of the exhaust, this'll deapen and sound better once fully de-restricted.

Get an Arrow sports exhaust. Their a bit pricey, £200 plus labour, but they sound good and increase the bikes top end slightly.

It is very easy to do it yourself, check out the link ^^
As I think you already know you don't need to get a new exhaust to derestrict it.
btw, note that they are as small as they are for a reason, if you get a bigger one you will be lowering it's performance (just look at GP bikes, all have tiny exhausts)
Lastly if it's just for looks I'm not sure if you can get slipons for 125 but worth looking...

O and welcome to the forum

Spend the money on something else, I've spoken to people with sports exhausts on their NSR and it made no difference except making it a little louder

All of the NSR aftermarket exhausts will give you a similar increase in power, which will be minimal. Your never gonna make it sound like anything other than a 2 stroke as well.

Get which ever one looks the best in your views.

And as said above, are you paying someone to derestrict it? If so, how much? And dont do it, do it yourself Very Happy

Thanks for the various replies.
Firstly my dealer is doing the de-restriction free of charge.
I am not wanting to see an increase in the performance, not bothered about the change in noise, I just want something that looks better. Maybe not an full exhaust, maybe just the 'can'. (if I have the terminology right).

you dont get big beefy sound out of 2 strokes and you dont get big cans. that it. pass your test and get a real bike if you want it to sound like one.

yeah! I know what you mean, grab a 2nd hand one I'm sure you will find one on hear for a cheap price. If you ask Kornel nicely he might be nice enough to sell you his exhaust on his NSR as he wants to part with whole thing soon? Very Happy

I am having to go back to using my NSR125, after my brand new CBR600FS was stolen last month. I have just agreed settlement with my insurer, and I am loosing a lot due to de-value of the bike and the massive £450 excess. I am totally sick about the whole matter, my new CBR had just 4 miles on the clock, purchase new in December and stolen from my locked garage, meta alarm and floor anchor and chain fitted!!!!!. how true.
but if you get an after market exaust. then i think the cans are interchangeable.
but are probably the most expensive part of the exaust.
