I bought a cb250 off ebay a few weeks back, as a first bike. I've done about 500 miles on it so far, and it seems fine (it's my first bike though so I've not got much to compare it to). But then the other day I heard a loud noise and it stopped moving.

So I wheeled it home, and it looks like the chain had just come off the back wheel. A bit of fiddling around and undoing/doing stuff back up later and the chain was back on, but now if I tighten the chain up as tight as it says in the owners guide the back wheel won't move anywhere. I've no idea if the chain was tight enough before it came off (I guess not or why else would it come off), but I'm a bit puzzled as to what to do. And apparently haynes don't do a manual for '94 cb250s

Has anyone got any ideas what might be wrong? And how I would go about fixing it?

Drum rear brake? You'll need to slacken it of as moving the wheel back will pull the brake on. Thumbs Up

Chains need to be lubed and tensioned frequently.

To lube it you can use old engine oil, fresh oil gearbox oil, ATF, or proper chain lube. It should never be dry, so you need to lube it regularly. Weekly if you're using oil, a bit less than that with chain lube.

Tensioning is a case of slacking off the back axle, and tighening up the adjusters on the back of the swingarm until the chain has an inch of play on the bottom run in the middle. Too tight and you'll start leaking oil from the gearbox, then eventually knacker it. Too loose and it falls off. When its just right your gearchange will feel nicest.

As for a haynes manual, you can't get one for a '94 CB250RS because the CB250RS stopped production in about '85. They were definately out of production in '94, so yours was never registered when it was new, or it was an import with some dodgy paperwork, or it isn't a CB250RS. There was a CB250RSA/RSD haynes manual, because I used to have one.

Pop a pic up and we'll see.

I'm guessing he means a CB250 'Two Fifty', not an RS, which would be about right year-wise...

Seconded Thumbs Up

Edit: Clymer do a manual that should cover that model: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Honda-CMX185-Clymer-Motorcycle-Repair/dp/0892878495/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1210259118&sr=8-3

Thanks for the replies, yes it's a "two fifty" (at least that's what it says on the side) with a rear drum brake.

I'll have a look at the back brake, and that manual.

Thumbs Up
