I think you have to ask yourself if you would be willing to smash your chin against concrete with it flipped down.

I wouldn't trust a cheap flip helmet because I'd be scared how the whole chin bit would stand up in a crash

i have a gmac helmet, although its a full face one, i wouldntr trust it otherwise,
i have had 2 crashes in it, 1 low speed, and 1 high speed, and its sweet as,
its got some grind marks from the road from my crash at 70, but you'd expect that from any helmet,
be aware if you are buying a cheaper tilting helmet, they get tested as an open face helmet, and only have to pass open face impact tests.
get a full face one,

Don't get a cheap flip, they are wank.

My instructor mates use Cabergs every day no problems, but they got sent a sample of a Takachi (I think) attempt at copying the flip, and the hinge bit collapsed getting it out of the box... Confused

Please don't start up again about flip front helmet (does that mean there's a flip-back helmet out there?) only being tested as open face and being a death trap.

Things are as safe as you make them. Although I did find this pic interesting (found in this thread).

FWIW I use a flip helmet as it's the most convenient for me. Ok, it's a bit more than £40 but not quite as expensive as the Schuberth C2 (which I will be getting as soon as I can afford - being saying that for years Wink). I am aware of the limitations of flip front helmets but consider that if the police, paramedics, etc. use them then the correct risk assessments have been done. After all, can't move without health and safety sticking its oar in in this country.

Oh, and FWIW please put long links in as

for us people with small monitors. Ta.

Forget what it is, who makes it if its a flip, full face or open face, NEVER buy a lid with out trying it on, They all fit different, cabergs small could be totally different size than say Nolans small

Which I believe is the reason that none of the above now use them at least in the London area.

Just for my two pence worth, I have had three Cabergs in the past and i'm on my fourth one now. Nowt was wrong with the old ones, I just bought new ones for the colour change and the few marks you get on them over their lifespan Razz

Had a frontal crash versus a deer in one and slid a good hundred metres down the road from 80 - 0 and my head is still fine.

Well medically anyway Laughing

I do have a couple of Shoei's as well for the rain and winter.

So it's a bit of a mixed bag of opinions then, Should have seen that coming really. I think I may go for it anyway as only really want a change for the colour, Current helmet is fine but is yellow when everything else i have now is black exept the tank bag. Will let everyone know what it's like when it arrives. Thanks guys.

Interestingly it does have a "mouth inlet" and "rear outlet" for ventilation, but then again so does a pig...
