Am hopefully going to get the bank holiday week off in two weeks time, will be leaving Tuesday morning and returning Friday night.

Plan to camp for all 3 nights, am currently going by myself, but anyone is welcome to come if they want! Am not going for a big hoon, am going to see new places!

I'm living just north of London, so it's 660 miles to John O'Groats....

Who's done either trip? How was it, any reccomendations? Which would be best for a first time big trip?

Cheers anyone!

What dates are you planning on going?

Bear in mind that the TT is 24th May - 6th June so chances of getting on a ferry during those dates is pretty non existent.

John O'Groats isn't actually very interesting, I know there's a certain sense of 'woo, as far north as I can go on the mainland' but the west coast is so much better - more to look at and more fun roads.

Tut Tut Tut Tut Schoolgirl error there Bendy, Dunnet Head, just to the west of John O'Groats is the northmost point of the mainland.

Having said that John O'Groats is nothing to write home about. Best, as you said, do a tour of the west coastline. Include the Applecross road as well Very Happy

Ok, this rules out going to the Isle of Man -

John O'Groats + Scotland it is!

It will be Tuesday 27th of May to Friday 30th of May!

Anyone interested let me know, and we can do some planning!

You'd have thought so but I was checking the other days and theres loads of crossings left, and its actually cheaper than if you'd pre-booked.

I booked last year and paid the £20 deposit but never confirmed the booking and paid in march (would have been £180). Starting to regret it now so had a quick look at the weekend and you can get Wednesday to Sunday for £149 for bike + 1.
