Seriously contemplating getting one for commuting instead of a bigger bike which is both more expensive to run, insure and buy in the first place.

I will be on a couple of NSL roads but mostly inner city liverpool
So will a 100cc keep up with most of the traffic at 40mph + or will i be struggling? anyone any experience of commuting on one? or anything similar?

also if i do get one am i better putting a red powerband on straight away or should i wait a bit?

Cheers Thumbs Up Alex

Why not just get a 125cc bike? Much more choice, and will be able to go in 40mph zones without ragging the engine (Not that the speedfight would, but anyway) Thumbs Up

because they are a lot more to insure my nsr is £350 TPFT and a speedfight is £120 + the fuel economy and the lessened need for such high quality oil all crutial factors on my student budget lol

The speedfight 50s seem to do a okish job of keeping up with traffic so i guess the 100cc would do it no problems.

Standard 100cc speedfight will do 60-65 tops, throw money at it ( like i did when i was 16) and you get an extra 15mph Laughing
but yeah standard they are pretty good, surprisingly torquey

60-65mph is about right. My dad has a 100cc Vivacity and it easily blows away my scooter.

Are you looking at new or second hand?

I have a 100cc Honda Lead had it up to 50mph no probs, might be able to squeeze another 5mph out of it but I suppose that depends on rider's weight and road incline etc.

For what he wants to use it for it would be perfect.

My dad commutes everyday into Manchester on his Vivacity 100cc and easily keeps up with traffic. It'll be a lot faster than your TS70.

Don't worry about running them on semi-synthetic 2t oil as my dads ran his from new on cheap carlube (£2 litre) and it's done 11,500km and still runs like new.

A CG125 would seem a more sensible choice - should be a fair bit cheaper to insure than an NSR, I'd say go a bit quicker than the speedfight and feel more stable.

If you're talking any sustained time on dual carrigeways, though, I'd go for more powerful.

Why? A speedfight 100cc is perfect for dual carriageways. You don't need anymore power. I go on dual carriageways on my 50cc and can just about keep up with traffic. A 100cc would piss all over the job.

CG probably cheaper on insurance and fuel economy.

6 pounds should take you more than 80 miles on CG more like 120 ish??

Thumbs Up

Because I've ridden a speedfight on dual carrigeways as well as many other bikes. I've also ridden a push bike. You don't 'need' more than a push bike, but I'd want something that can keep up with unladed truck going up hill.

Have you ridden a speedfight 100? They're not a lot quicker than some of the 50cc peds, just relatively less tuned.

It is most definitely not pleasant having a big arctic trying to conserve their speed stuck up your arse, especially when there's another one try to over take you at the same time

Been pillion on one up to 60mph on the motorway. They have plenty of power for a dual carriageway. They put out 8hp so about twice as much as a 50cc scooter.

A 100cc would easily beat an unladed lorry up a hill.

you would have thought that but insurance on a CG is £320 so not worth it! Would rather use my NSR
CGs also keep there money well

think i may just see if i can blag a van from somewhere and bring my NSR up

A 100cc would easily beat an unladed lorry up a hill.

Was that an 'indicated' 60mph? I thought that was about the top speed of a standard speedfight 100.
A derestricted ped can easily be making 5-6hp I believe.
A half-decent empty arctic will be able to keep up it's totally-correct 56mph going up a hill. I'm not sure the speedfight would be able to really.

As the average speeds on a lot of dual carrigeways is 70-80, I would want at least that sort of speed if I was going to be regularly using them. Sure you don't *have* to have that much, but it's nice to be able to at least keep up with traffic.

Nixon; if you look around, reckon you could get it for less. However, as you've got an NSR, you might as well get that up to you really.
Sorry, I should have said 'something like a CG' - I agree CGs tend to be at artificially high prices.
Of course a VFR would be much better all around Smile (apart from the riding position anyway.)

My scooter puts out 3.1hp. You can get 6.2hp from the fastest accelerating scooter in the world which is the Liquid Cooled Peugeot Blaster. The majority of scooters put out around 3-4hp.

Top speed of a Speedfight is an indicated 65mph. We hit an indicated 60mph.

Depends on how big the hill is but a speedfight 100 could do 56mph up a hill. The majority of time trucks are full of stuff so it doesn't really matter.

All the dual carriageways near me are 40mph or 50mph and doing 65mph on a 70mph dual carriageway would be plenty because the majority of the time I'm sure the OP won't be riding on national speed limit dual carriageways.

CGs only have a top speed of 65mph so what makes that bike so much better?

I had a speedfight 100 as a first bike, was a good bike.

Would easily do 60mph, good fuel economy and very reliable!

Don't listen to what others were saying, it pissed all over the 50cc peds in my area. Was a fun bike, I have one in my garden you could have for cheap - just has a shagged engine Embarassed

I thought 3hp was about stock 'restricted' horsepower.
Isn't your scooter a 4 stroke? The 2 strokes can generally put out getting on for double the four strokes power when de-restricted, as they tend to be designed with more performance in mind.

The CG (or GS, etc) I suggested I think is a better choice because it's more stable, more economical to run and I reckon can take a bit more abuse than a speedfight.

I'm not sure if the speedfight I rode could maintain 60 nicely and doubt it would do it up a hill. Also doubt that a stock one would be hitting near a 'real' 65mph.

Note that I did suggest after, that I would recommend something bigger and that includes bigger than the CG.

If dual carrigeways are slower, that's fine - but the majority around here are unlimited, so basically the same as a motorway.

My scooter is a 2 stroke and it puts out 3.1hp.
A 4 stroke puts out about 2-2.5hp.
My Raleigh RM6 which could hit 30mph had 1hp which was also a 2 stroke.

Only the real performance or liquid cooled scooters start to put out larger figures such as the Peugeot Blaster (6.2hp) which has the same engine the Jet Force 50cc. Also the Aprilia RS50 put out 7-8hp.

Generally though an aircooled 50cc will give you around 3-4hp. So the Speedfight 100cc is like having 2 50cc engines Wink

if its the blaster 50
still not very fast,
faster than all other scooters yes,
but geared 50's are faster.

Know someone with one, apparently there supercharged or something, but he didnt have anything on my 50.
