Riding again after 6 month gap

What's it like?

I used to do 20k miles a year, riding 6 days a week. Autumn last year circumstances (new job, buying house etc) meant I sold both bikes and I haven't ridden since. This is the longest I've been without riding since I did my CBT...

Thinking about picking up a bike this weekend, would involve 1.5 hour ride back home.

What's it like getting back on a bike after a long (ish) layoff?

I didn't ride my Ninja for about 6 months, felt very odd at first but after a few mins was fine. Just get on and do it, easy.

The old addage you never forget how to ride a bicycle is mostly true of many skills practiced and learned.

The most important thing I think with going back to biking is a bit of common sense. If you're careful and take your time you should take to it like a duck to water. Don't rush things it'll come back, but remind yourself you're still a little green around the edges for the first week or so.

I take 5 or 6 months out every year. Takes me about 15-20 min before I'm fully back up to speed.
