OK I'm new so I don't know what's bin said before and who's who or nuffink so apologies if this has all been said b4 and is therefore boring...

Question: who's into what? Who does track days, who are the straightliners, who can pull the mingingest wheelies etc.

For me, I've never done any straightline tomfoolery but I've done about a dozen trackdays at Cadwell Park (high 1:40s full circuit so not very quick - still in the fast group tho') but awesome fun. I live 40 minutes away so I ususally try to get to a few every year. Well I say 40 minutes but for some reason it only takes about 25 to get back, maybe my impressions of speed get distorted. Cool

The only time my front wheel ever leaves the ground is over the mountain at Cadwell .. I used to be an engineer so I just can't bear the cack handed throttle and clutch abuse that practising wheelies on a 9R entails. You'se young'uns out there better get learning now on yr NSR's and stuff coz I never did when I had (relatively) cheap bikes and it's too late for me now....!!!

Well Dean, I know you say "no money" does that mean "no money" or "very little money".

I can get 5 or six sessions out of a track evening (believe me when you ar overweight and underfit like wot I am that's enough - also it's a bout a full tank of fuel on the 9) and they are about £60-£70 full circuit... a birthday present maybe, or two week's beer money.

Dunno where you are but it's well worth checking out evening sessions at your local circuit and just turn up. Don't book it, I never have you're completely at the mercy of the weather. Just turn up and register after work/college/signing on whatever on a sunny day.

You will not regret it, the buzz is amazing and you can still be pulling melted rubber off the edges of your tyres days later....

Dean, check this out, dates for Brands Hatch.

https://www.racedays.co.uk/diary_select.php

Kris, if that's you on your Avatar, you look far more likely to bin it on the road than on the track mate. Wink

Look at it this way - all the traffic goes in one direction, the surface is MUCH better than any road or roundabout anywhere, there are instructors on hand to give you FREE instruction, usually 1 to 1, you don't have to ride like a twat (but I do and I fall off so I can speak from experience - but I did ride home).

You can also go in the slow group and do a few warm up sessions - you just have to keep telling yourself it's not a race, it's a learning experience. There will be people MUCH, MUCH, MUCH faster than you and if you try to race them you will fall off, if you give it the berries on cold tyres you will fall off... otherwise it's safer by far than road riding.

I am not ashamed to say that I have been embarrassed Embarassed on the track by a ZZR600 where the guy had his 2-piece leathers gaffer taped together and had worn his footrests to little stumps, an RS250 priller that came round the outside of me at upwards of 90mph round Charlies and other memorable event a nutter on what I think was a 610 Husky Supermotard through the left-right approaching the mountain. But.... I am usually in the fast group and it gets competitive and I enjoy it because I know that there are people out there who have more talent than me and also those with less brains and I will race neither..!!! Rolling Eyes

The middle and slow groups are 99% full of peeps who want to get better so they are learning, not racing.

Give it a go - I guarantee if you follow this advice and be sensible you can learn to go much faster and much safer on the track and on the road.. Cool

If the worst comes to the worst and it's unrideable ... which let's face it is VERY unlikely you can push it to the circuit gate and call the RAC... Twisted Evil

Where is my local track? Im clueless I might go up this weekend and have a look?
The main reason I want to get on a track is so that I can learn lines for corners and learn how to take them properly as Im not that good Embarassed but my braking is brilliant though compared to my mate on his Hornet I can always catch up with him on approach to corners coz I break twice as good as him Very Happy

not 100% but I think if you're a softy southerner from Surrey Wink then it's probly Brands Hatch that's the best and most famousest one

if that's your NC30 you'll have a blast on the track, they are awesome little rockets and built for cornering

try a track day with g'teed instruction from experienced racers

OR my virgin track experience was on a Rider Skills day from Ride magazine .. it's a bit more expensive but it is VERY controlled and no-one ever crashes but you will build very quick confidence in small groups with braking, cornering and manoovering exercises with pro instructors, not always racers.

I am also now officially a fair weather biker and I don't care. Cool my bike has been in the garage and not started since November

Riding in the snow and ice is no fun and doesn't make you a bigger man or better rider - although it does teach throttle and brake control...!! but it's a very expensive lesson

It's meant to be fun not a chore (although I'm still disappointed every time I get home and turn the key to off - even if I'm fookin soaked) Very Happy

And yes, I also have a car for everyday use .. when you get old and fat like me it's essential Wink

Fair weather biker is not an insult to me, nor is fat idle bastard coz that's what I am... Wink
