Hi
I'm thinking about buying a mudguard from a guy for £30. He's just another planet owner I found on bikepics.com. How do these things work? Should I pay first, or should I wait til I get the mudguard? whats the accepted way of doing things? I've never bought anything (privately) over the internet.
thanks.

Usual method is for you to pay and they will send when the money clears.

In the end you have to trus them, if you pay be cheque etc tehre is at least some tracibility.

Right.

If you are unsure, you could ask him to put it on an Ebay auction, so that there is a contract behind it.

I've bought from people online before, and the normal way to do it, is to pay first, and then once your cheque has cleared they will post it.

Get a phone number, and you'll have his name and address.

Some people will post on receipt of your cheque though.

Where about is he in the UK as well?

You sould use something like Escrow or Paypal.
Escrow allows you to transfer the funds into a "Middle" account which is only released once you have the goods and are satisfied with them

I think I trust him- I've spoken to him before and asked him questions and stuff and he seems alright. And like you say I'll have is address so if he tries to con me I'll go looking for him. He's in Stamford, Lincolnshire- too far to meet up. Thanks for the advice- I'll just see what he says now.
