How to find out what insurance group a bike is

I've tried using the search function on BCF and it keeps saying it's too busy and can't find anything on google.

Could anyone tell me how to find out the insurance groups for bikes or the insurance group on a Hornet 600 ('99) and a NC30 ('92)?

Reason I'm asking is because my friend said I can ride his NC30 when my arm heals since he doesn't have a license. So I call up my insurance company (Devitts) and ask about it, they say i'll be a £20 administration charge which sucks but I did expect it.

Then she says the underwriters can't insure me on it because of my age? I've been insured on it before (2 months on ebike before) and the performance of both bikes is roughly the same... I know the NC30 is more sport inclined but the Hornet has more power as stock (claimed anyhow) and it is a little bit heavier...

Parkers have insurance groups as do MCN bike reviews. Older bikes? You may be on you own there.

From memory they are both NU group 12, but insurance groupings are only meant as a guide, I think there is some more complex method for working it all out going on in the background.

It might be based on how easy the bike would be to replace and also some people won't insure you unless you're the registered keeper and stuff like that.

There are other factors involved, and I don't think that knowing they are both NU group 12 will help you. Especially as you've just had an accident!!

Ok just checked on Parker's and they are both group 12.
