What effect has a job?

Sizing up insurance quotes I'm getting asked what my job is, and I wondered what difference it makes? Do some careers signal to the owner being more sensible or roadwise, or is it perhaps to do with how often you're likely to use the bike (even though you're asked to estimate your yearly mileage). And, as I'm working as a journalist at a local newspaper and using my bike to commute to work, what effect will this have on my quote?

As far as I am aware journalists have really high insurance quotes. There was a topic not so long ago that had a link where you could put your job in and it would give you lots of other similar jobs that you could choose from that you could probably get away with

You should have chosen a respectable career, such as an accountant, which would have put you in a low risk occupation and hence lower your premiums significantly.

How are they gunna know what you do anyway, Make it up. When i got my car insurance, i told the woman i was a forklift driver in a cash and carry ( true ), She said she hasnt got that on her list, so put be down as a worker in a supermarket.

I had trouble finding people to insure me, A quotes are the best for people who work in the entertainment.

'Record company' didn't go over too well, there were some companies that wouldn't quote at all. You want to avoid mentioning anything remotely 'media' if you can.

My dad was a radio broadcaster for the beeb, but his car insurance was pretty reasonable with full NCB - not much difference between "Journalist - Broadcaster" to "Interpreter" which is technically what my dad does- he just translates english media streams into indonesian and gets on a mic and speaks - albeit that it's transmitted 7000 miles across the globe and relayed Put it this way, 250 quid for Piaggio NRG as a "journalist - broadcaster - 0NCB" - 70 quid for the same bike with 1 year NCB and "interpreter" put in - they're not going to check.

I think they must cross referece different jobs to see who crashes and who doesnt. So if you do say your a stamp collector, then they look at any other stamp collectors to see if they crash often or claim or whatever.

If however you put yourself down as a pyromaniac or something that you have to be a little bit on the edge, then its going to be more expensive. That is is pyromaniac could be a job, oh how i wish.

Thats my theory anywayz.
