Anyone got any info on the Honda CR250 motocross bikes? I have had a look but can't seem to find any technical info about 'em, like BHP, etc.

Also, anyone know how often you have to rebuild the top end on 'em? And how much does it cost for a 250cc piston, and all the other bits and bobs like gaskets, rings, etc for rebuilding the top end? Anyone know, or own one?

Same goes for the KX250, but I reckon the CR is probably the best crosser (with the possible exception of the YZ and KTM's). I am lookin' to buy one for some fun, was gonna go for a KX500 but it was a bit old (1989 model Confused) and would probably rip my arms off Laughing

Bit over 40hp I think.

*think* you're looking at rebuilds about every 1000 miles.

I'm keeping an eye out for a crm250... which is a aroad version with a tad less power and a toad more wweight, but 13,000 mile rebuild intervals, which is much nicer for road use Smile

Aye, so it'll probably need a little tinkering before it's road legal (but it's got indicators and lights etc...just needs MOT and general tidying up)...I might be going halves with Chills, dunno yet...

1989 isn't too bad for a well-maintained crosser, especially if you just want to have some fun on it.

It'll probably put you on crutches first!

Having taken a 4-stroke 250 (XR) around a mx/trail course, I can personally say that I would find a dedicated 2-smoke machine too much to handle to start with. Having said that, since you're not talking about serious off-road racing, it should be very fun for greenlaning. Also, the CR is much lighter than the XR, so perhaps I wouldn't be so knackered after the 20th time of picking it up...Razz

wohoo i was right about something Smile (ish)

my dt is 127kg (dry i guess) and i can pick that up quite easy.

thing about cr250 is u can pick em up old second hand well cheep, ie less than 125's as they are scary and most people race 125's.

A mate of myn the other day went to MX scrappy and picked up a £400 cr125 running !!!!!!1 baste*d!!!!

I used to have 125 crossers, thought about a 250 recently so it's got a bit more poke getting away from the coppers, they're being bastards round here recently. There's about 20 lads all with crossers, 18 of them being 125cc or less, and only 2 with 250's (a YZ250 and CR250) and there were about 8 lads on the crossers at the local pit site, there's a massive jump and the 125's didn't have enough power to make it, and only the 2 lads on the 250's got away. The police gave them a bollocking, but since then a sign has gone up up there saying anyone caught will be prosecuted and their bike confiscated if they cannot prove they own it Sad
