Quote:
Ken Livingstone is in line for a £69,000 pay-off from the taxpayer after being ousted as mayor of London.
He is entitled to claim the "resettlement grant" to help him adjust to life out of office after being defeated by Boris Johnson last week.

The 62-year-old former mayor, who formally left office at midnight on Sunday after eight years in the job, can claim half his annual £137,579 salary.

Under Treasury rules announced quietly this year, the first £30,000 will not be taxed.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1932923/and16369%2C000-pay-off-for-loser-Livingstone.html

Maybe people have already seen, but bit of an eye opener, not only did he get paid a sickening amount per year for being mayor, he gets to claim 4x my salary for "resettlement".

I had no idea London mayor got paid so much, but getting a pay off for being crap is just ridiculous.

And these scum talk about "law and order" and "pay restraint" and "benefit cheats". They should be taken out and fvcking shot, the lot of them. Thieving, lying, cheating criminals.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The smarmy deviant had a nice tickle for 8 years. Man... I bet he was copping three times he's salary in other perks of the job.

Said he would trust Lee Jasper with his life who ended up getting caught with his fingers in the honey pot. Aye, good riddance, but wait, here comes another one to fill his place. pah.

I don't know what the rest of you are on about, he did a wonderful job of f*cking us over. He deserves all the money he gets, he worked bloody hard to get that congestion charge through...

Thumbs Down

the first 30K tax free is normal and it is avalible to everyone, and his settlement isn;t that much comparatively anyway, I know a guy who got a 750K settlement to be kept quiet , he sacked but he also had the FT's telephone number and he knew where the bodies were buried.

I think the point is, why the feck is he getting one? I really am confused; he did a job which means he could get voted out so how come he gets a payout afterwards? Neutral

Short fixed term contract. No reason for any kind of redundancy payout.

All the best

Its not a redundancy payment, don;t make me start reciting the tax book back at you (has anybody noticed it now has to be delivered by fork lift truck in 2003 ish when I started my career it was the size of a large telephone book it now takes up an entire section of the company library).

Its one of those ex gratia get lost type payments that can be made to somebody.

He was an elected official. The only justification for such a payment would be as a redundancy payment. Having to pay to get rid of someone that has been voted out is very wrong.

All the best

its pretty normal though when Blunkie was forced out he got 150K comp , when he was forced out again he again got a 150K compo, turkeys aren't going to vote for xmas.

Pretty much like the speaker abusing taxis for his wife , the standards comissars saw no wrong namely because they do this corrupt practice themselves.

69kis peanuts for someone with the level of responsibility that ken had. A fairly good lawyer halfway through their career would get more than that.

having some form of severance package is just part of their initial pay deal, no different than if they had no severance package but had that amount split over the years they worked

depends , as said in all things there are pyramids, with every $$$$$ lawyer there are lower paid lawyers , law firms, accountancy companies are all run on the work of the rookies and new folks,

My old firm had 5 partners and over 100 very poorly paid staff, they had a 75% staff turn over,

My current firm has 3 partners and 15 staff , but its a nice place to work.

In accountancy there is a nasty 23K ceiling where a lot of people get stuck for years , potentially their entire lives.
