hey people
1st of all please please dont fog me of because I have an import.
I just need some good advice and this seems a great place to start.

I have just got a second hand sanya sy125 5months old with 1400 miles on the clock.
I have not had a go on it my self as I have not got my license yet.
but my dad has and he reckons it is lacking power for a 125.

he is used to riding a 650 transalp so it will never compare to that. but when he was a kid he used to ride 50's and 125's and he got them up to 75ish.

so anyway, this sanya has a couple problems

1. when you turn the headlight on the rev counter stops working occasionaly and the fuel indicator goes to full even if the tank is near empty.

2. lacking in power. I thought I would check the air filter to see if that was causing the lack of power but it was clean, but I notices that there was smoke coming out of the air filter box so I checked the pipes and there is a tube going from the air filter into the side of the engine which is blowing exhaust into the air input. I thought this could be a thing to help it start in cold weather? but it seems a bit weired to me.

3. again power, geting up to speed is a bit of a problem it jus takes ages to get up to 30mph.

also from looking at the spark plug it looks like it's running rich.
so what can I do about these problems?

I dont expect top accelaration or top speed but I want more out of it than what it's giving at the moment.
are there any performance upgrades that I can fit to it?

thanks a lot in advance.
rich.

I would guess that your dad is refering to a long time ago, when 125's were not strangled to fit in with the leglistation on power output.

I guess this bike is one of the cheaper copies of the std jap fair and could well just be designed that way.

Give it a good service and treat it to some new plugs. May just help a bit

the exhaust going into the airbox is part of a restriction thing possibly. It might not be though so don't play.
sometimes its just there with a none return valve type thing to suck warm air into the air box to aid the engine,
Take the plug out and check the colour of it, chocolaty brown and its ok, if not its not running right,
Ive never known an accurate fuel guage on any bike.
for a chinese 125 to be going around 40-60 is perfectly normal, ours don't do any more than that. there just not built to be able to.

the 125's that your day could be talking about at rd's ar's and so on, there still fast as fuggery but tend not to last long piston wise.

The Electrical problem could be a bad earth, so check all wires are secure and corrosion free.

The pipe going into the air-box sounds like the crank case breather. It also sounds like you are getting some blow back past the piston rings. However if the airfilter was clean it can't be too bad as if it was the filter would be coated in oil.

How fast (top speed) does go? For a 4T 125 even restricted(rare) I would expect at least 45-50mph.

HI,
if this bike has the same cg clone engine (156fmi),
then its good for up to 75mph.
adjust mixture, they are always set ridiculously rich & change plug.
if its the cvk50 carb, then the mixture screw in underneath, facing towards the ground????
change the main jet for a bigger one, the one in mine wasnt marked, but i put in a 115 & fit a conical air filter. made a huge difference.apart from being really loud (due to absence of air box-later rectified by fitting the conical filter inside the empty shell of air box) made a big difference to pulling away, wasnt so sluggish & definately got a couple of extra mph.
chinese bike forum is a useful place for advice.
dont bother with the race cdi's - no difference.
cheers,
GAZ
