I dropped my bike (agen) Sad and now it keeps blowing fuses in the ignition circuit, so cant be started. Would be great if someone new what might be causing this, I guess its a short somewhere, really cant afford much time to look at it atm, is there a starting point that I should check out first?
cheers
Adrian

My guess would be that the fairing had pinched some wires somewhere when you dropped it. Which side did you drop it on?

The weird thing I forgot to mention is I rode the bike this morning, and it cut out about a mile away, and kept blowing fuses, I ended up walking the bike home Sad

The right hand side, snapped the 2nd bloody brake lever off in a month, I really should stop going so slowly. Having so much grief from this bike...
I think something else goes wrong every week.
On a happier note I went karting today, and won Cool

Take the right hand side seat bit off and look at the loom as it runs towards the main fuse near the centre of the bike. I had an nc23 with the same fault, turned out the fairing bolt was going through the main wires causing a short when i hit the start button. Laughing

small update, the bike started and idled happily for a while with a new fuse in, however as soon as I put it in gear it blew the fuse again...
admittedly I havent looked at the loom at all to look for a short due to exams, it does seem weird that it starts etc, just blows the fuse once its put into gear....
any ideas?
cheers Adrian

Sounds like that it may have something to do with the sidestand switch if it has one? When you say it cuts out you mean instant electrical cut out.

Yea its electrical, it just stops/stopped running and blew the fuse.
The bike doesnt have a kickstand switch so it rules that out. I took the fairings off, and tank etc and pulled off a lot of connectors and cleaned them with electrical contact cleaner etc and replaced, since then the bike runs and starts and contiues to run when in gear. There two parts off exposed wire from the fuel pump leads, does anyone know if these are on the ignition circuit and could have resulted in blowing the fuse? I doubt it, and it didnt seem like they were or could possibly have touched anything or each other to short. Il get them insulated tommorow. Its worrying not knowing exactly what the problem is/was, since you never know when it might come back (most likely to be in the middle of nowhere, at night, and in the rain)
Thanks very much for help/advice etc so far
Adrian

The fuel pump will get a feed from the igniton so it knows when you've turned the key to start the bike. Sounds like perhaps the fall made the uninsulated wire short something out.
Just clean and grease everything you can get at , old bikes are a nightmare with electrics. Crying or Very sad Hope it stays cured. Laughing

Thanks mate! I forgot to post an update for you yesterday, I switched the bike on so it was running and realised it would be possible for those exposed wires to touch the rear shock, I touched them against it to test and immediately blew the fuse again, seems like Iv found the problem thanks god! Iv been paranoid about never finding it, and then the bike just cutting out whenever it wants! Iv insulated the cables now very well so It wont happen again.
Thanks very much for the pointers, it looks like this was entirely my own fault for not finishing that job off properly when I resoldered those cables, fortunately it didnt turn out to bad, and is just a lesson for me to always finish things off properly first time and not 'leave it for later' lol
Thanks Thumbs Up
Adrian
