I think you should get some more experience too ,
I'd avoid Devon and Cornwall though although they are close , they are horrible to ride in during the summer, double white lines and narrow roads mean filtering past them is dodgy.
It gets especially bad around Indian Queens I was filtering for miles and miles and miles and miles , people think its clever to bring caravans, late in the day its quite good though.
Devon+cornwall are hazardous though lots of muddy roads , lots of microclimates that affect grip , I recall a trip to lands end on the old XJ600 which was on its last legs (during my bike killer stage) you'd go past some twisty bits and there were bits where the trees overgrew the road for about 200 metres , it'd get cold and the grip would vanish. That said we were ahem maxing out our bikes then. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. Honestly cannot see the problem with going as far as you want, a road is a road and as long as you don't act like a dick then you will be in no more danger on roads that are not local than you will on local roads.
Just treat the whole time as a learning experience and you will be fine.
Ok so Itchy has a good point about not filtering on double white lines in cornwall/devon. But then you shouldn't be filtering on double white lines anywhere at all.
The roads miles away from you will still be the same roads in six months, you wont know them until you get on them.
Get a map and a sat nav if you want one and just go, ride safely and enjoy yourself, it is after all what it is all about. |
