Ok so went to open a bank account yesterday, using my provisional as one of my forms of ID, but didn't think to take the paper counterpart. The woman I spoke to said this happens several times a day, so even if it seems obvious to some of you, just a heads up that you need both parts Thumbs Up

On the subject of banks.....how stupid are some of their security protocols!!!.

I forgot the pin to my mastercard a few weeks ago and was seriously desperate for a cash withdrawal so i headed over to my main branch with driving licence(and counterpart) passport and about 5 recent utility bills hoping i`d be able to just make a withdrawal over the counter......but i was wrong.
They point blank refused to give me any money and said i`d have to order a new pin number before i could use the card again???
wtf?
I could understand them refusing the transaction if all i went with was the credit card coz i could`ve been anybody......but refusing even with all the ID to prove who i was is a total pisstake.I stood there arguing for nearly 20 minutes, asked for the branch manager blah blah but to no avail......left with nothing and had to wait for a pin reminder to come through the post.

Ages ago I tried to take out a few grand to buy a bike - they complained that my provisional photocard and counter-part doesn't count and that I needed a full licence - though I don't see either would be any harder to fake.

Never had a problem with just using the photocard myself, if i were called on it I'd suggest to them that the card has my picture, my name and my date of birth on it - they don't need to see the counter part.

Point out to them that it is illegal for anyone other than a Policeman or a Court to ask to see someones counterpart, hence the reason why we now have the photocard!

Human rights groups are now starting to take this issue up, and the banks and building societies know that they are performing an illegal act but they still continue.

Recently I went to buy a rear tyre for my CLR, stuck my card in their pin machine thingy and had a senoir moment (I'm not that senior either...) Could not remember my pin, had it since I was 16 but it just flew out my head.

I remember it by the shape it makes on the key pad and by some weird short circuit of memory; I was putting it in backwards. Confused

Anyway, the point is, I nipped to the nearest bank, gave the nice young chap behind the counter my card, explained my senior moment afterwhich he gave me the cash and asked no questions, didn't even ask for ID.

The only questions he asked was did I get my zipper puller thingy on my jacket from the IOM TT races (its a weemoto one) and how much cash did I want.

Thumbs Up

Sorry to trawl this up but opened a new account on Friday as I couldn't upgrade the account I have currently.

I had my normal bank card, the card for my driving licence - not the counterpart and my regisration on the voters role as ID.

No problem at all.

Bad time to mention i'm about to start on Royal Bank of Scotland (aka Natwest as well) Bank Manager Grad Scheme....?

Seriously check your banks for better ones, RBS in know let you have up to 300 pound off ID only in your branch (the one you opened it in). As well as emergency cash from a cash machine if you ring their emergency number and do it without a card. HSBC tend to be wankers for that type of thing and dont give you anything. I couldnt close an account with no cash in it with them with just my passport and driving license.

When i know which branch i am in i'll organise some biker friendly banking... helmets and everything Thumbs Up
