Most of the time i respect the French and their ballsy attitude in regards to not taking shit from the government, most of the time that is, when it doesent fuck up my travel arrangements Twisted Evil

Woke up on monday and decided to ride over to amsterdam, booked a Dover Calais crossing for tomorow morning (Thursday AM 0635), all was well untiill i was browsing BBC news today and heard about the angry frenchies protesting about fuel, Now all ferrys between dover and calais are not sailing Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7412852.stm

I ring them up today (P+O) and they say they dont know when it will end, and if i want to cancel they will charge me 30 quid for the pleasure (my return ticket was 40 quid ffs). Bastards the lot of them, its my one week of freedom before i need to start working 50 hour weeks next week (yes i have used the word week alot) and the frenchies and now P+O are scuppering my plans.

It turns out eurotunnel are far cheaper than the lot of them and not dependant on monopausal french dock workers... so im going to book with them tonight, pity i dident know about them (always assumed it was just eurostar) so it looks like i'll be sitting staring at the floor of a cattle wagon for 30 mins rather than an hours nap across the channel...

Comments about the french fisherman/fuel protests? my bad luck?

A case of bad luck I'm afraid.

It's what should be done in this country. Not the "boycott" certain companies or send e-mails around. Rolling Eyes

That's crap!

It's ok for them to charge you £30 to cancel?, so what compensation do you get when it's their fault or decision?, NONE! - Utter bollox!

I sympathise with you. Rolling Eyes

It's not bad luck. French dock workers go on strike around this time every year.

Next month it's the Spanish air traffic control staff, the month after it's the British baggage handlers.

Glad it worked out for you, but always, always use the eurotunnel from now on. It is a world apart in its service offering.

Think it's about time we all went on fucking strike. These fuel prices are pissing me off.

Pah - nothing at all you can do about the fuel prices, they can only get higher. The law of supply and demand cannot be altered.

Quit moaning about them and enjoy whilst they're this low.

Doh! Brick Wall

The reason they keep getting higher and higher is because the general British public let the Goverment ram anything they please up their arses.

The country needs to stop. You know, like how the French do?

Oddly enough it works Rolling Eyes

Price of oil is rising because of the dollar's inflation. Opec hasn't actually increased it's profit margins for years and is actually pumping more oil which should result in lower cost.

So actually supply and demand have little (probably non) effect on the recent raises.

Long day, just got back in, left 23 hours ago,

Arrived at Dover at 6AM, had to wait untill 9:30 for my ferry which was supposed to be at 6:30, arrived at calais at around 12pm, only had a couple of hours in amsterdam, where i proceeded to ask a motorbike cop directions and then stall the bike and drop it on the RHS, snapping off my footpeg and front brake lever (The embarrassment Embarassed ), thank god for the R+G i put on a couple of weeks ago, i might have been stuck in amsterdam with a fucked engine casing, worse places to be stuck but still...

The bike cop was a really cool guy, he tracked down some dutch AA van man to jump start my by now dead battery free of charge then escourted me through the city to a bike shop that had a spare lever. Thumbs Up to the Dutch Motorcycle Police, and generally everyone in amsterdam, all the ones i encountered were very very cool and helpful.

I arrived back in calais at around 11:30PM to be told that there were now no sailings to dover due to the strike, they gave me a eurotunnel ticket so i took the train back. Its a bit boring sitting in there but its not too long, and cheaper, i know what i will be using from now on. Thumbs Up

I've been deputed to a place 45 miles away for the next 3 months. I am now paying £12 per day for petrol for my commute to work. Thankfully I can claim a part of it back as travel expenses, but spending money is a lot less now. Evil or Very Mad

Yep, we need full on action.
All these truckers protesting is all well and good, but it wont do the general public much good.
Its been said before, but we need proper action to show this thieving government that we have had enough - the problem is we are mostly content to moan about it and do little else.
It makes me laugh when old slackjaw puts high prices down to the oil companies - when the bloody tax on it is so high.....
