bringing a nc23 back to life. bought it non runner got it running but
didn't hav tools or time/experience to fix throttle prob took to a bike garage said it needed carbs cleaned and jets as it had been sitting by previous owner for 8 months.

well after couple of days had to call them they said needed air filter 3 days after that still no call so rang them they said they at mercy of suppliers, called them again which they weren't happy about the guy said no idea wot had been done but still no ar filter. now going on 2 weeks and still no call not even to tell me wot parts hav been worked on or parts needed and ordered? taking the piss? or is this normal with bike garages??????

some do seem to keep you in the dark, which is why i personally don't ever go back to those garages.

The best thing to do in my opinion would be to go there and ask to speak to the manager etc, see the bike!

Parts such as air filters are off the shelf items and should be supplied next day. Other items may need ordering from manufacturer/distributor. Even then you should only be talking say max 5 days. Even had stuff that was (allegedly) ordered from Japan in about 8 days.

So, yes, poor service. You might want to suggest they source another supplier/autofactor.

Suggest you go and see the bike. If no work done then get your bike back, even if it means pushing it home.

just worried if it stripped they will do sommit to it so it fecked b4 i can uplift it

they said it take 2 to 3 hrs for carbs and jets so should hav had it done . will update this tomorrow as if no call i going in to see them and see wot happpening with it. they prob try charge me for ework done and i not clued up enough yet to know if it been done apart from it should be better then when it went in.

ha ha it a long push back to my houdse but another bike garage is only half a mile away but it all up hill ha ha and i aint a smal bloke lol

Only if you want to pay £6 + VAT delivery on top of the cost of the filter.

NC23's were never imported officially so parts may be getting hard to come by.

Can get new carbs for them though pretty cheap.

Sounds like Hilevel's carriage costs. Pain in the arse for small orders.

Not sure about aftermarket filters though, I doubt they will be available as that bike is relatively rare in the UK.

At the worst the workshop guys could use an airline and clean your current filter, it would at least get the bke running for you. Thumbs Up

Yes they make for it with the prices on parts. Compare their prices to mine, its a bit shocking in places.

I was actually talking about the price for delivery from a wholesaler. When you charge in excess of 100% markup to be blunt its easy to have low postage rates. As to them being quick and reliable they just give the same service I do ie they post same day most of the time.

The attitude that the bike trade can get anything next day pisses me off a bit I must admit. For example...

Aprilia parts. We get 10% and get charged over 10% on postage so it costs us more than the part costs retail to get it!

Honda parts. Biggest stockist is Dave Silver, no discount available.

Fowlers. Decent discount but you often wait for parts.

Cradleys. Good stock of parts but not a big discount and you often have to wait. Make between 2.5-10%

Pattern Suppliers. Minimum order for free postage at one is £150+vat, at most its £250+vat unless they have a delivery service.

So people expect shops to get bits in next day and sell them at a retail price even though we often have to pay over retail to buy them in the first place.
