Hi Guys

I bought a new(er) XJ6 off eBay as I think with my other one it's a question of time until something worse goes, spending £150 to have the CDI repaired and have the bike MOTd really hurt my wallet Sad.

Small issue on the new bike, although its so lovely to ride Very Happy and I got it for a good price, it was an ex training bike and I think the indicators have taken their fair share of abuse. Appearance has never been a big concern of mine though, lol.

Problem is, on the left indicators, it flashes double time. Now I know normally this would inidcate a bulb had gone, so the resistance in the circuit had gone down and the voltage or something had gone up meaning the bimetallic strip is heating up twice as fast in the flasher unit... but in my case BOTH the lightbulbs are working fine.

The guy seemed genuine and I asked him if anything was wrong and he said no, and had just ridden it 157 miles to drop it off for me, so I think either he was telling porkies or was just oblivious to the problem. Still, nice guy and nice bike and the problem isn't the end of the world (so long as I don't get pulled before I can fix it). But how do I go about a proper diagnosis since both the LH indicator bulbs are working fine. Don't fancy taking it to the shop because of money.

Right hand indicators flash at normal speed.

Check the rating of the bulbs, if the wattage is too low in one of them it can have an effect on the flash rate.

Next easy check is to swap the flasher relay for the one on your other bike.

I will do that. I noticed today after washing the bike holding the revs up at about 4k ish and the flash is normal, it's only when the engine is idling or at lowish speed (like approaching a corner) that it does the double flash. I don't think my flasher unit will work from the other bike as it's a pre diversion, but it doesnt look to be a complicated problem fortunately, just maybe intermittent.

If a buld has gone you will find that the other will not flash.
Not fitted LED have they ?

Most flasher units are a std fit.
