Hi. I have recently purchased a 1980 V reg Kawasaki KLX 250. The tyre sizes (knobblys not road tyres) are as follows...

Front - 90/90 54R x 21
Rear - 4.60 S x 18.

I have worked out that 4.60 inches is 116.84mm.

Now, I can get a good deal on a pair Avon Roadrider AM26 tyres. The front is a 90/90 V21 (54V) and the rear is a 120/90 V18 (65V). There is a 3.16mm difference between the sizes of the rear tyres. The question is will that make a big difference?

No. 4.60 is roughly a 120.

That little difference is all good.

I'm now wondering if I should go for a lower profile on the rear tyre. Anyone offer any ideas?

Can't see why. It effectively makes the wheel smaller, changing the gearing.

On cars fine, it looks cooler. But on a bit I've only changed profile because the tyres were really cheap.

I have had a word with round and black on ebay and they recommend a 120/90 rear as this will give me the same rolling radius as the current (horrible) knobbly that I have.

I have a set of Avon Roadriders on order.

Cheers for your help Gaz...you were spot on when you said that a 120 and a 4.60 are roughly the same. Thumbs Up
