well on maythe 9th I found out cars can brake a lot harder than i can resulting in me hitting the bumper at around 30mph and getting spat off the bike. (the guy i hit didnt even stop but it does mean i can keep my no claims) I was taken to hospital and found out I had a broken collar bone Sad. The police informed me my bike was in a nearby compound and i had 5 days to show my licence restriction certificate and insurance to the local police so my dad came over with a trailer and we picked the bike up after shelling out £150 for inconveniencing traffic Confused Evil or Very Mad. the bike had cosmetic damage of 2 right indicators broken, a right side mirror broken, a brocken brake pedal and a very scratched fairing/exhaust.

I shall also point out i had exams the following week but theyre done and dusted so its fine Razz.

Later we tried to start it but nothing was happening and my heart sank Sad untill I realised the kill switch was off and there was some life.So i put some more petrol in the tank and it started occasionally but very roughly so we continued it and it turned out it was just a blocked fuel filter Smile.

I returned to the hospital a week later and was told that i needed a metal plate put in as the bones were too far apart and werent knitting so was told to come back the next week for the operation.

so last thursday i had the operation and woke up with a VERY sore shoulder but it should leave a kick ass scar Mr. Green.

Also due to sods law weve been having some of the best ever weather up here in ullapool and i cant do any riding Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Good news is that i get an extra moth off work Thumbs Up Mr. Green and my shoulder doesnt hurt so much due to the various painkillers im taking. And ive got some indicators off ebay and just need a mirrr and brake pedal. I wont bother with a new fairing for now as i need a new lid and jacket (prev items were totalled but trousers etc are fine)

So after all this I hope i didnt bore you all but i thought id last more than 9 months on the road before getting a metal plate put in me.

I might have missed some stuff out but oh well. Cheers for reading Karma

What bike was it? Just a note that generally reasonable bikes (decent front tyre and ok front brake) should be able to stop as quickly as pretty much all road cars (at least in the dry).
However it does take a fair bit of practice to do it - might be worth getting to an industrial estate when you're back on it and seeing what it can do (and maybe having a look at some 'advanced riding' techniques for observations etc) Smile.

Nothing against you though - and even the best can still be caught out easily enough.

Anyway, hope you get yourself and the bike sorted quickly Thumbs Up.

I did a 'braking test' with a 93 325i with ABS on my TRX850.

I stopped in about half the distance the BMW did - newer cars with new tyres would probably be better. Certanly my M3 will stop fairly quickly if you mash your foot to the floor thanks to getting on for a metre of contact patch. However not sure it'd be quicker than a bike 60-0 still.

I'm getting to sound far too like a stereotypical IAM person - but of course the trick is in the first place is to avoid such things before they happen Smile, so if you can, I'd also at the least maybe go to a 'bikesafe' event.
