Hi Folks,

After 10 years off the road (previously as a car driver), i decided to slowly return by purchasing a Brand New generic (budget) 4-stroke 125cc automatic.

Perhaps i'm being impatient. I've only got 90miles on the clock now. But still when i try and start it, it'll chug chug chug - usually i'll have to kick-start it.

If it's been warmed up (taken it for a 10 mile spin), i'd say it'll start-up no problem with the ignite switch (75% of the time).

In addition, the bike has the tendency to cut out randomly (whilst moving), but usually under a little pressure (up a hill or something) - - when this happens i can feel it coming: the engine will slow to a low (frequency) rumble, and the engine (Rev Metre) will resist any attempts at acceleration, basically unresponsive until it finally cuts out. It'll take a while of kick-starting to get it going again.

I've been asking friends and they're stuck too. I took it back, they told me they'd tuned it, but nothing changed.

Is this still a battery that hasn't charged yet (even after 80 miles)? Perhaps a minor tuning issue?

I now wish i'd invested in something with a clutch.

What bike is it.
Is it a semi auto that you have 3 or 4 gears.
If so then you need to go down a gear when you are going up hill.

Paddy.

I can't remember the brand.... i'll have to check it out later.

No clutch and no gears. I wish there was, it'd make things easier.

I already took it back, and it was a hassle to get there. They tampered with it, said it was fine now - however, nothing much seemed to change.
They're perhaps a little incompetent... or maybe it does need to go back again.

For the sake of assertion.... Any idea what it is that they need to adjust/tune??

Thanks.

Difficult to diagnose without seeing it, but it possibly sounds like a fuel/air problem.

Well take it back again tell them if they don't fix it, then you want your money back or a replacement as the bike is not doing what it is supposed to under the sale of goods act. If its done less than 100 miles then they should just replace it.
Talk to trading standards about the problem.....

I would be wanting my money back and go and buy a decent mode of transport. Perhaps a 2nd hand Cg would be a better option. Thumbs Up

If you start messing and they spot this they will say sorry nowt to do with us, someone else has been messing it up.

As iooi.
Leave it or you will be stuck with any other problem as well.
Just take it back and let them sort it out.
If it comes to it ask for your money back and hope for the best.
CG for the win. Thumbs Up Smile

Paddy.

weirdly enough, i never got the time to take it back.... but the problem seems to have sorted itself out.

It's on 200 miles now, and due for an oil change.

Perhaps, it was just a case of the battery needing charging or the bike running itself in or something.

Thanks for the suggestions.
