what happend??

I was on my bike riding to college to sit my final exam, as i pulled up to a T junction which iv'e used 10 to 15 times a week for 3 years and all of a sudden the front wheel just slipped out from under me which then sends the bike flying on its side with me along with it, luckily i sorta bailed out and rolled away from it isntead of being trapped under it.

anyway i get up, run to the bike, switch the killswitch, lift it back up all the while the tosser behind me is beeping his horn!!! seriously wtf! but was more worried about the bike.

The bike has very minor damage, left wing mirror is cracked and wobbles but i have a spare one. also a scratch on the front indicator and the crash bung and thats it so was pretty lucky

i came away with just a bruise on my right leg which was driving me nuts as i was doing my exam as i hadnt checked it to see if it what it looked like.

any idea what may have happend? thinking diesel since theres heavy construction nearby and loads of trucks about but didnt really notice any patches of diesal and iv'e ridden over patches before without any problems. It was pretty cold as well today compared to usual so possibly just cold tyres messing up on a cold surface while light breaking, although i rode through winter without facing any problems like this.

suggestions?

iv'e riddin the bike in the afternoon and tonight and it there doesnt seem to be any problems with it.

You use the front break? The makes the bike slide quite easily in the wet. Also if you have a cheap shit tyre like my old 1 then you slide everywhere. Also, Like you said could have been diesel or maybe even oil?

Too Much lean? Could have been anything mate. Just take it a bit more easy. Pop up when the whether is dry and see if there was anything.

I always rather wear a black visor even when it's rainy since i can see the rainbow patterns on the road to indicate oil/grease/diesel - if you were at the junction, you probably would have been able to figure it out. Had it been raining over there?

Too much power on the white lines/markers will promptly see the rear slide.

Could well be grit/gravel/oil that's been washed from the construction site.

Cold road surface, cold tyres, even on a slow speed should be taken gently.

Did that last year, same junction I use every morning for work. On breaking the front washed out and I hit the deck at about 20 mph. After picking myself up I inspected the road and it was covered in Diesel. Always a bugger

i wasnt leaning at all which was even weirder, it had rained the day before but the roads were dry.

it was a bit upsetting that when i crashed into the ground, lying on my back that not a single person came over and asked if i was ok, there were at least a dozen people within 4 or 5 metres away.

as for the road, wasnt crossing any white lines, going about 10 mph, slight pressure on front break and all of a sudden it just slides out from under me.

could very well be deisel as there is a new hospital being built on the right and a new college being built 30 or so metres away but its never caused problems for me before.

not really fussed about having the spill but more interested in what caused it and how i could avoid it happening again.

as for tyres ive had htem for quite a while and they've done well so far, all i know is that there pirelli tyres

Your lucky, when I was on my way to an exam at college 2 years ago I had an accident, got covered in mud. I got there and they saw id had an accident, and they refused to let me sit the exam incase id go into shock mid exam.

Despite me telling them id already been through and come out the other end singing and dancing (dizziness, feeling sick, tired, hard to breathe etc.) and they locked me in the first aid room for 4 hours. Wouldnt even let me leave to go and get a drink.

Tossers. Destroyed everything at college that did.

Yeah, me and my friend who was riding pillion (idiot crashed his bike) coming back from stratford today we were playing yellow car with modified rules, its just got to be mostly yellow and have wheels, so yellow bicycles, skateboards etc.

Playing it at 70mph coming down the A46 then we had to pass a HUGE construction site where theyre building a whole business park, loads of yellow trucks, portable cranes, diggers etc.

Nearly turned into a full blown fight with traffic all around us
