Hi

Table of international fuel prices:-

https://gasoline-germany.com/international.phtml

Only countries more expensive than the UK are Norway and Turkey.

All the best

Keith

I don't know whether it's a dynamic update, but at the moment Argentina (1.30), Austria (1.25), Belgium (1.43), Czech Republic (1.24), Denmark (1.40), Faroe Isles (1.34), Finland (1.47), France (1.40), Hungary (1.29), Ireland (1.20), Norway (1.65), Poland (1.28), Portugal (1.480, Puerto Rico (1.41), Serbia & Mont (1.34), Seychelles (1.36), Slovakia (1.16), Slovenia (1.15), South Korea (1.16), Sweden (1.31), Switzerland (1.17), Turkey (1.59) are all more expensive than the UK's apparent 1.15

If these are Euro prices then they're wrong because fuel our way is £1.15/L not €1.15/L

Another thing to consider (as I've pointed out before) the general taxation in European countries is higher than in the UK with many countries (Benelux, France, Scandanavia) hitting 40-50%.

Tax but how tax?,

In that we may pay 31% and 51% and 41% on our salaries but what about other taxes, and other hidden taxes? .

Also it doesn;t take into account tax efficiency , income tax used to be 99.8% efficient tax £1 tresury gets 99.8p, it now gets 97p.

There are some incredibly inefficient taxes out there like CGT and IHT which cost MORE to administer than they collect, or the London congestion charge which some say is a negative tax since it costs so much to administer and compo payments to the company that runs it.

My apologies I should have been more specific, by general taxation I meant Income Tax, however VAT is also lower here. Thumbs Up

At least Scandinavia seem to benefit from the high taxation.

Scandinavia is so much cleaner and pleasant on the eye in general in the town centres (if you've been to Scandinavia, you'll see the difference between your average British street and Scandinavian street) and taxes don't seem to be going to good use in general.

Where is our money going?

And then it's also the thing where the government go on about it being a 'green tax'. If they were so green, they would ban 4x4s from city centres etc, but no, its just another way of raising some revenue.

Or for example, I wouldn't mind paying high fuel prices if we had an alternative. The government is spending NOTHING on high speed rail for the future, or improving public services at all.

Our railways are a joke.

I agree and the irony is, those countries with higher taxes are investing more in their social services, and public transport which means people don't have to buy fuel at those high prices. But, it's a bigger issue than just that, and though I'm grateful to keith for posting the link I do think we have to maintain our perspective.

Can you import petrol? Buy loads of barrels of Petrol from Algeria for 22 cents and ship it to England and shove it in your back garden for easy filling up Razz

Maybe bury some incase supply runs out. You could make a mint then by selling it.

Prices are in Euros and the UK petrol price given is €1.45/L. The €1.15/L you have seen is for 91 RON fuel which I have never seen on sale in the UK.

But their tax systems work quite differently. For example when I worked in Belgium their basic tax rate was higher but you could claim back a tax rebate for the distance you drove to work (6Bef/km, about 16 p a mile at the time).

All the best

The UK tax system is so BS, it encourages you to be lazy and not work hard, many other countries allow various deductions such as commuting and deductions such as taking on further education.

In the UK education is not allowed as a tax deduction , as the government want to keep people thick and it would lose them plenty of money in the short term.

Its silly really as if I go do an MSc I will presumably get a better job earn more and pay more income tax. As I've said before the goal of this government is 150% tax, earn £100 pay £150 with the excess taken in labour , which will be immediately shovelled into the furnaces.

well no since they import the black stuff and refine it here, in many places in the world like Singapore they measure your tank BEFORE you cross the border to prevent you filling up in Malaysia.

Right Keith, thanks for the clarification so apart from: Afghanistan, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, and Turkey, and the ones pretty close to us: Belgium (1.43), Denmark (1.43), France (1.42), Guadeloupe (1.42), Italy (1.44), Reunion (1.44) we pay the most for our 95 octane unleaded fuel.

I have just come back from touring europe this week doing, Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy France, Belguim etc......

I found the prices there to average e1.50 per litre, this works out more expensive than our are present currency rates, so i dont know where they got the information, would loved to have got it at these prices.

Urgh I semi expected this , that due to the UK£ tanking (lost 25% in the last 8 months) this tour is going to be expensive, better add yet another 25% to the fuel budget then Mad

They pay about 10% less according to the figures on that site.

On the AA web site there are fuel prices as well, although it is pretty limited in the countries it covers. Shows similar prices though with the UK being expensive for petrol, and very expensive for diesel.

All the best

Keith

Good job that most bikes don't run on diesel then! Laughing
