i have deleted the cache files, temp files and history.

what other things can be done to make my computer faster? by deleting things.
heard that tmp , chk files can be deleted as this is wre most things are stored

Check in Start/All program/Startup to see what programs are loading up at boot time.

Also if you're ok with regedit

Checkout hklm/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run and see if there are any unneeded proggies there (usually quite a few)

Also hkcu/software/microsoft/...../run and do the same.

Type MSConfig in Run
Go to Services
Hide All Microsoft Services
Disable ones that you don't need
Do the same in the 'Startup' tab

To make it boot faster, you can make it boot using more than 1 core (Useful for Qxxxx and Exxxx processors, can't remember the command, google it)

If you don't play games, install Linux (Xubuntu if you want blazingly fast)

Run a full virus/spyware scan

Disable indexing

Do a proper job



Buy some more Ram its costs like 5-10 quid depending on what you need and can get.

Format your Machine, put a nice Anti-virus and Adware on it (Search the forum for software)

I use an unregistered version of Vista, as such it only lasts about 3 months, at which point I format and reinstall, only takes a few hours and if you partition your drives accordingly then you dont even have to reinstall programs/software etc, just the OS, keeps things running smoothly for me, destroys any malware that might be lurking etc.
