Hi All

Does anyone know if its possible to fit an aftermarket fuel warning light (to an Aprilia RS 125 in particular).
Its most annoying not having anything to let you know when your about to run out of petrol.

Do you have a trip gauge?

If you do, use that, every time you fill up, reset the gauge, after a couple of runs you will know how many miles you get to tank and then can think well I'm probably going to run out of petrol in the next 10 miles.

Edit:

Fuel gauges don't tend to work too well on motorbike petrol tanks, they are often awkward shapes etc.

yeah its got a trip meter and thats plan b Smile

the bikes is my girlfriends and shes still learning to ride so its just one more thing to keep an eye on - would be nice to have an unmissable visual warning when it getting near the reserve though.

would i be possible to wire up a set of clocks off a later bike that has the warning light on if i got all the relevant bits (tank & wiring im guessing)?

You've have an unmissable warning when you get near reserve, the bike will star to stutter, then you just pull over and change to reserve.

Ive always used the trip meter and found it a pretty good way of keeping an eye on things. My current bike has a petrol gauge on it and it seems to be working fine.

Tell the mrs to check the mileage before she sets off, that way she is aware and neednt be looking at it while she is riding.

My RS125 used to judder then as soon as I switched to reserve it would cut out and not restart for ages. Handy for overtakes Shocked

The only workable way I can see it happening, is if you used the fuel tank from one of the newer models, though be warned, fuel warning lights are rubbish anyway.

Or you could just be hardcore like me, no working odometer, no working trip counter and a tap that leaks unless it's on reserve. (Yes I end up pushing it to petrol stations quite often.)

I'd rather take a reserve tank, fuel warning lights as I understand it come on far too early. That said, I just keep it topped up Smile
