For those of you who are curious about the strike, I'd like to give you a little update.
This is based on Barcelona, but I think it could be worse down south.
Basically a couple of days ago I heard from a friend that the petrol was running out fast because of the truckers on strike. I rushed to get petrol with a friend and found hour long queues to some petrol stations, and some had been drained to the last drop. We managed to get a total of 30 litres, so as to hold on for a month.
Food is running out too, but not really at a crisis level, but in Madrid (on that day) people had been fighting and stealing food because of how bad it was. We're still a bit short on petrol here, but a couple of trucks come in every day so it's ok.
To Itchy: I'm really not sure about santander...When are you going there?

Thanks,

I shall be arriving in Santader 7th July R1 lad is going to be on the same boat ,

cus the ferry arrives then, its just getting iffy on the news that Spain is really running low which may mean I don't go as deep into Spain as I'd hoped, and cut across directly to Barca then North into France.

I'd heard some even worse news that truckers (with guns) were blockading the border and the N204 too , which would be even worse!.

If its REALLY bad I'll stick around Santander for 3 days and get the ferry back to Plym,

Well I know a lot of truckers have been beaten up for trying to do their job... But by the time you arrive this should have settled. Shame that I'm in Sweden from the 28th of June until about 14th of July...If not we could meet for a coffee Cool

I can't see the government allowing the strike to go on for nearly another month - the whole country would be fubar if that happened.

Should be fine when we arrive Smile

Edit: Hey Itchy have you seen the bull run is on in Pamplona from 7th - 14th July? I might go and see if I can watch one, it's meant to be a pretty good atmosphere although I hear it's pretty hard to find accomodation round there.

Hard is not the word my friend. Prepare to sleep on the street, and with bike gear I wouldn't recommend it. If you want to see it book now and hope it's not too late. Lovely city though, was there after the bull run last year

I'm loving it, getting 2 days off work because the plant is running short of car parts so we can't carry on building Twisted Evil

Itchy enjoy yourself on Pont-Aven.

We (family) have done it a couple of times and always love it, its a lot better than the old boat. Cheap cocktales on the boat too, enjoy.

Just watched the news and things are pretty much cleared up. Some 70ish drivers were arrested because of their violent acts, and the Spanish government made it clear that they will NOT tolerate violence. I think they've agreed to help truckers financially with petrol, but now it seems the taxi drivers are about to go on a similar strike. Anyway, go for it, you'll have a great time
