sorry if anyones excited, I havent got to work on it yet so there'll be no pictures for a while. basically what Im doing is I want to chop the rear section off the bandit frame and bolt on a new one. This has been done by plenty of people so I have help in that respect.

Heres where I struggle though. I use the bandit for getting to work. Without it, I could get the bus, although this would be very tedious.
So, my options are......

1. Sort out some short term insurance to ride someone elses bike while I'm chopping and changing

2. Buy another bandit frame from the breakers, install the subframe on to that frame, and then move the engine etc over. I'd like to know how easy this would be to do between two people, and if its a suitable option.

3. Work on the current frame and get the bus. I dont like this option

Anyone one who can advise on the engine swapping can have some Karma

If it's a serious project then I'd recommend stripping the frame down anyway. Just ask Keith about how poorly finished the frames are and how easily they corrode. If I were you I'd get a cheapo CG125 to zoom around on whilst you strip the Bandit frame and get it painted and chopped etc. Bandits are pretty simple frames, the cradle makes engine removal relatively easy AFAIK.

Have you come to a decision how the frame is to be finished?

thanks for the reply. it is a serious project, however the frame is in good condition and I only need access to the rear half, so it would be possible to leave the engine in.

yeah, the frame is simple and there is a section that can be removed for engine removal.

cheap bike is a good idea and, although I could probably sell it back for the same price, its expensive in the short term.

thanks for the reply Thumbs Up

get insurance for a month through ebike on someone else's bike, or if your policy allows it ride someone elses with your current insurance but with 3rd party cover only (i.e if it gets robbed while you're in possesion of it - tough)

shouldn't be too expensive through ebike either. I payed about £45 for the month on my bandit 400 at the start of the year. I'm 21 and have 1yrs no claims. Used to cost me about £20 a month on my year policy with bennetts - so although it's double it's still not bad considering you'll pay it for a month.
