Sorry about the big pictures. Picked this up Wednesday.

I've not had the chance to change anything on it yet, so all the stickers are the previous owner's work. Not too sure about most of those. Really don't like the screen either. Want a black double bubble one if I can.
Bike came with a full Akra system, brand new Metzeler Sportec M1 tyres, braided brake lines, integrated tail lights...

Got some awesome new boots yesterday aswell.

Been a good past few days really. Thumbs Up

It a F ZX6R right? I had one of those as 'my first big bike' and I loved it!

Looks really tidy with some nice extras too - stickers are not too bad either but easily removed...

Its an 1996 F2 ZX6R, but because the stickers have been taken off it - it dosnt look at its prime condition Sad

The F2 6r's are known for the streak decals,

Hi there, 5'9 would be plenty for this bike. I'm just 5'4 and with my boots on can get enough of my feet down to feel comfortable. If I sit right up to the tank I can flat foot it which is what I usually do but then again I don't run the risk of squashing anything if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the comments. Thumbs Up

Thanks, and yeah I have done for the past year with my parents, but came back a few months ago on my own as I prefer it here, strangely enough!

So is this you permanently back from NZ then?

Not bad bikes them. Looks like your bike has been sorted. Akra full system, flusmount/integrated indis, seat hump, braided hoses and new disks! Not bad going. How much did you get her for? What's the mileage. Valves need checking every 16k miles (well that's what i do them at) but other than that, they're bulletproof (unless your air filter is torn - in which case you'd have a fucked engine which is what happened to mine). All white indi lenses is the best way to go.

I mean that's ALL the stuff that might/will need replacing imminently on F series ZX6R's and it's all on the bike so consider it a bargain - the original exhausts rot like buggery.

Take all the stickers off firstly. I prefer race rep stickers but ONLY if they're done properly.

Have a look at mine by comparison. The bikes do look square-ish but from certain angles it looks round and smooth.

Them bikes do look nicer with an oval end can. I wish I could find an akrapovic system but then again i got a full titanium swona system (the guy closed shop but it's very good welding) for 140 which is a steal!

Prowler, i'm 5'9 and i can sit at lights with both feet touching the floor. They're very comfortable to sit on and good for 400-500 mile days Thumbs Up .

Titz are they ok running threwout the winter with the carb freezing problems. How much roughly do you think youv'e spent to maintain it in a year if you've had it that long? And also do you use yours every weekday how much you think you spend on petrol a month. Cheers.

Sorry for nicking your thread Steph... Laughing

Prowler, my bike had issues since in crashed it, not related directly to maintaining it (new engine required because i tore my air filter and ingested sand - i live on the coast, and also the fine dust at the sprayshop)

In the winter months carb icing is ONLY an issue when its misty and COLD enough (carb icing only occurs between a specific temperature band) and on a dry winter's day, it rarely happens. It happened to me on my ZXR250 but was remedied by putting Silkoline FST (fuel system treatment).

The year i've had it (negating the cost of new engine and crash damage)

Arrow Tyres (200 quid - IF you choose to get sports touring, i've got BT014 F and BT020 R and have done 7000 miles on them although they are squared off now and past their best! Still have 2mm tread on them). Otherwise, i had dunlop qualifiers. If you do say 4000 miles a year, then get the sports road tyres instead of touring. I cover 10k miles a year on a mixture of distance touring, commutes and sunday hoons.

Arrow Chain & Sprocs - replaced at 20k miles £140 including fitting

Arrow 24k mile service - valve check, oil change, carb balancing, Camchain tensioner - £380. CCT was done for piece of mind because I was plannign to use it for a year without major maintenance

Arrow Petrol per month at today's prices - £160 - that was for me commuting to work - total mileage 1500 miles (60 mile round trip). Now, it's about 80-100 quid a month just for weekend blasts (even still, I do 200 miles on most single blasts).

Arrow Oil change every 3000 miles - £20 quid a pop if i do it myself or 40 quid if i cant get a mate with tools and leave it with mechanic.

Arrow Chain lube and cleaning products - £20 (HG bike gel wash + chain lube & cleaner)

It costs a lot, but that's because it's a hobby rather than a necessity now and i'm beginning to enjoy it more.

Totally dependent on mileage really. But the costs don't come all at once, unless you end up with a dog of a bike (very rare).

That's before TAX (£45) and Insurance (£450 TPFT/Edinburgh/3years NCB)

Nice one for that Titz, seem like a good reasonable cost to maintain it over the year thanks Thumbs Up. i'v been looking at the 99 ninja and the 97 srad 750 myself, was stuck between the two as which one to go for, i really liked the looks of the ninja i think i may go with the zx6r now after knowing all that. Cheers. Cool

I have a '99 zx6r, sweet as a nut, and it has been fairly abused by myself (but also pretty well maintained)

If it was me, Id also factor in (at around 16-20K miles) head bearings (I do mine once a year anyways) and linkage on rear suspension all new-ified...looking at around 30+70 and then either labour or free if ya do it yourself.

Thumbs Up

Fucking brilliant bike Mr. Green

Good to wheelie on, good on track (so far) and excellent comfort, brilliant mix!

PS: Sorry Memento, really nice looking bike! Thumbs Up

Looks rather tidy! And loving the system, even though Im a scorpion man through and through.

Thanks a lot for all your replies and no problem Titz, a lot of the stuff you've said is proper handy.

The bike was 2 grand from a dealer selling on behalf of someone. It's done just over 16k (so valve check and head bearings may be in order!) and I need to faff around with the suspension anyway as evidently the previous owner was a fair bit heavier than me. Even then, the handling on these things is just immense!

The gearbox seems a bit sloppy. Gonna take it in while it's under warranty and get them to have a look at it although I'm not sure if this is just one of the bike's traits? Also the brakes are fairly naff. New pads are top of the list.

First thing I did when I got it home was remove the baffle. Sounds incredible now, the bike just roars at everyone and everything in its path.

Staying in the UK for the immediate future although I'll most likely return to NZ in a couple of years time. One thing's for sure though and it's that I'm taking my bike with me... I bloody love it! Very Happy

Last time I did an oil change on my bike (ZXR250), i stripped the thread on the sump Crying or Very sad. But i normally do them myself if I have the tools (unfortunately, my tools cache is scattered between loughborough and london!). I have an arsey cock of a neighbour who complains that the communal car park gets "wet" when i wash my bike... let alone him seeing me do an oil change!

Steph, with your gear changes, make sure that your chain is in good nick and adjusted properly... it should run sweet as a nut otherwise. I've had no problems with clutchless shifts. If you do get a chain, i'd say get something decent like Tsubaki or AFAM. I had IRIS on the bike when i got it and after 2k of me owning it, the chain was shot, stiff link caused tightspots! (probably only 8000 miles old). There have been no issues with gearbox failures.

I wouldn't say the handling was all that mind. You had an NC30 and I had a ZXR250 before hand - personally i found the smaller bike fun, but i've got used to wrestling this bike into corners - very involving.

Brakes also need stripping down and rebuilding every 10k or so. Clean the calipers at least twice a year or whenever you change your pads. New pads (sintered) work wonders on the front end.

Also do NOTE that headbearings WILL go around about the 24k mark so budget that into it (shot bearings was a contributing factor in my crash). Also grease up the suspension linkages. 2nd hand shocks are cheap off ebay - purchase and overhaul = much cheaper than getting aftermarket and is more than enough for the road.

Lastly, i'm glad that you can appreciate that 12 year old bikes are still fun on the road.
