On the 400's... When I was choosing mine I had those 4 in mind, the gsx-r 400 quickly went off the list as the riding position was too cramped and they generally look very naff. I liked the vfr and rvf engines over the plain inline fours of the baby blade and zxr, but didn't fancy the looks of the zxr and the vfr/rvf are faster bikes than the baby blades. In my book the RVF is the bike to go for, it's the best handling 400 by far and the v4 gives you a nice wide range of usable power. It loses 3/4 hp to the zxr engine, but they were too revvy for my liking, and I had just got rid of a two stroke so wanted a wide power band rather than the 5mph extra top end.
If you're choosing, get test rides on them all... Box hill motorcycles are very good about this, they let me loose on the range of 400's even though I didn't bring my license with me, just took a deposit while I went out and played. Like the 125's they are all so close in performance it's down to which one suits your riding style and what you like the look of.

Kornel

Seems like a wicked place, definitly the best place to go if you're after 400cc (ish) bikes.
I like the RVF but the old dennis (they make buses) style lights are just plain nasty. the newer models are much nicer.
i'm tempted by the VTR250. it's a v-twin and has got the power i'll *legally* have on the 400 anyway. i love the v-twin, gonna experiance it atleast once in my life. even just a year till i can get a full power machine. yup, it's a 250. but the power of 2 nsr's. and so many more miles to the gallon!
