Hello
I have a problem with my zx9-r 900
it's sold as an 97 model but it's imorted so i'm not sure..

But the mystic problem with it is that when the engine is running and then you give it som throttle it sounds perfect
but when you drive at gear 3-4-5 it's like it doesn't get enough fuel
the 3:rd gear only works good between 5-7 rpm,, if i press the clutch after a decent acceleration the bike dies
so i can't drive over 110 /kmh

the problem was discovered after an engine service
when we tryed to drive home..

we have checked the the ignition coils, the new spark plugs, fuel pump
and the fuel flow from the tank
the local workshop don't know what's wrong..
Please help...

make sure that the carb boots are done up tight and that no air is getting in,
make sure your air box is clear and your filter is in good condition.
there is a million other things to check, but always start with the basics first Very Happy

clean the carbs if not done already.
they arn't as scary as people think Very Happy

Does this only happen at higher speeds/revs? If it's an import it could be restricted, causing you not to be able to exceed 110/kmh?

when we purchased the bike my brother tryed it and everything seem to be perfect but there where no papers (service bok...)
so we wanted a fresh start and did a engine service on it.. since then it hasn't worked as it should,,

The seller sayed nothing about restriction or anything about any problem..

The 4 and 5 gear does not work much at all only bellow 80/kmh
There is a dyno jet kit on it that could make some difference (muffler, sport filter and so on) but it's been there from the start..

The filter is checked and re-oiled
and if carb stands for Carburetor it should have been checked in the engine service,, so thats done..

the only thing we can think of now is the cdi box
is there any possibility that it could be the one causing this weird problem ?
thanks for everthing..! Smile

(leaving for Gotland Lelleträffen be back at sunday)

My vote is something more sinister, check to see if it is burning oil, and get a compression test done.

That bike is definitely a 97 model or earlier (B model).

As hmmmz suggests, I'd be going to look at the carb boots (bits of rubber connecting carbs to engine and airbox. Maybe take all that off and put it on again.

Have you got details of what exactly was done in this service?
Who did this service?

if it's the rubber sock that is attached to the neddles you mean we just checked them there where a small crack in the edge of one of the four.. The local workshop said that this lite could not cause the problem and asked me to repair it by myself ( = with some kind of glue) because they where to expensive to change,,

Thanks for everything...

we finally found the big problem with the bike

my cousin came back after a long test run with two big bits of paper
taped onto the front air intake..

and the bike was working very good compared to before

so the simple thing that caused all this problem was that the dyno jet filter let the air in to easy now when it's clean (after the service)
so we must find a good solution how to mix the right amount of air..
but i think we can handle it..

So everybody !
Thanks again! Very Happy

arhh the old filter problem, ditch the dynojet filter and put in an original oem (factory) filter, very rarely can you get a kawasaki running better than what the factory has released it..
or you could put in larger jets, but i think that is far more trouble than what its worth. plus you will burn more fuel.

im glad you finally figured it out Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
