Went out with my dad today through wolsingham way. Supose i could say it was my first proper ride out as thats the furthest ive been from Sunderland Embarassed

Ive got a Peugeot XP6 50cc and hes got a Thundercat

Just before we got to Durham, doing about 50, my bike slowed to about 45 and then cut out Confused I dont know much about engines so i thought it was completely f*cked Sad

Pushed it a bit further down the road to catch up to my dad, messed about for 5 minutes and got it started again and continued through to wolsingham/frosterley way.

Good ride out, nice weather, everything great apart from the fact i ride a 50cc Sad Laughing

Coming back home through houghton cut (this is quite a steep bank) and my bike slowed from about 55ish to 20, then at the top of the bank died again, this time the temperature light on. Left it for a few minutes and came home from there.

Any ideas on why it suddenly cut out? Obviously the fact that it "overheated" due to several hours riding is a possibility for the second time. However, id only been out 10-15 minutes the first time it happened.

Also, i fitted a new battery yesterday as the old one was a bit f*cked, it started up great until ive had this cutting out business. Now, it may aswell be the old one, iv only had it a day! Sad

Anyhoo, its been an overall good few hour ride, just thought id share my day with somebody Smile

Heres a picture i took earlier aswell Thumbs Up

sounds like fun mate. I dont have much time to go on rideouts cos of work so I envy people who do. I don't know about your bike in particular but there are plenty of basics to check.

1) check you dont need reserve. I know this is obvious but even experienced riders have overlooked this.

2) check your spark plug.make sure it isnt covered in cack.if you have a haynes manual, it will have a diagram of what a healthy plug looks like..

did the bike cut out immediately or did it slowly die over a distance?

Check your spark-plug mate, had it on my scrambler 125, sparkplug was messed up so bike kept cutting out and then starting a bit later just fine, also check your HT lead make sure its all plugged in properly.

Hope this helps.

Jay.

EDIT: Dammit, you got there just before me.

Check your carb thingy that lets air in.
and choke cable etc.

I think mines something to do with fuel and carbs that mines doing it.

and the reserve is auto just a light comes on when in reserve.

It will be the plug most likely, its a good idea to have a spare one with you whenever you're any distance from home.

Probably be the plug but one thing you could check is next time it cuts out and wont start, take the petrol cap off and see if theres pressure there and see if it starts after the pressure has been released. Could just be a blocked fuel cap breather.
